LOL so true...but what surprises me is tht its just riddhimas character which is given such treatment.. every other character is shown to be straight with their feelings and we know what they exactly want.. armaan loves riddhima, sid loves riddhima, shilpa falling for armaan.. but when it comes to riddhima it is always god darn unpredictable.. NOone can be 100% sure and say what shes trying to do or why shes doing or even what she wants.. its funny.. as to how long they can keep a characters feelings hidden..
theyve shown her to be heartless.. and selfish and cruel and oh i can go on bout her...
but i guess ths the way it works.. riddhima has to be the bad guy here in order to run and stretch this pathetic show... if her true feelings are shown thn it is almost certain tht they no longer will be able to stretch the show any further..

when the show started it was about a bunch of doctors, later it focused to Riddhima's background, and then, to Riddhima treating Armaan like crap... but that was it... after that... it was only Armaan Armaan and Armaan... and it was as though everyone including those who made the show as well as watched it, became so fixated with the guy, they started jusitfying every act of his, making it almost seem right, almost like a fashion statement...in the process, poor Riddhima somehow lost foothold and the changing faces of the character didnt help either.. the makers got a reason to blame the instability, which the viewer moved towards irrational comparisons...! and with that Riddhima's character was lost .. today it is beyond recognition or repair... at times, i wonder, if Riddhima were to actually go back to Armaan after all this, would we still think it was worth the pain? cos thro all this, they have always made it sound like she has always had it easy, when the truth has been far from that! and i realised, i can go on and on like this.. so i will stop...!!

I came on i-f after so long, and somehow found this post. And it seems rather fateful because right at this point of time, I'm going through something very painful. Of course, it has nothing to do with "romance", and that is how it is just worse.
Now that I think of it, Riddhima is, or at least should be an inspiration. They way things kept happening to her - her sister's rather rude behaviour (remember Anjali's initial persona? and to think it would have been like that throughout her life before the creatives decided to turn her into an "angel"), the arrival f the super-arrogant and annoying Armaan, the pressure to do well as a doctor, the distractions, Armaan's bullying...
Then she fell in love with him, and even that was full of complications. Could she trust him? And then there was the issue of her parentage. And when everything seemed all sorted out, her dad disapproved of the match.
Finally AR got engaged, but then she was shot and went into a coma, and when she woke up, Armaan had left her, as her dad said.
She tried to move on, hiding the pain deep inside her, when Sid appeared on the scene. He was like Armaan too - arrogant and brash and eager to make Riddhima's life hell.
Then she found out that Armaan had not betrayed her, and yet he had. by not trusting her love. by not giving her a choice.
With Sid she went to look for him, but Armaan left her again.
Then I missed this part, but she had to marry Sid, who was angry with her for trying to commit suicide. On one hand she knew she had to put the past behind her and accept her husband and learn to love him, but on the other she had to keep facing his wrath and her own grief.
When things again seemed like they could work out, Armaan came back.
And I can go on and on, but I guess this is enough to show the kind of life Riddhima is leading.
Is it any wonder that she is confused? That she can't trust her destiny? Every time she moves on and steps towards happiness, the past tries to pull her back towards darkness.
Sure, she can take Armaan and leave Sid behind, but she cares about his happiness too. And there is no rule that says that a person can love just one person. Maybe with Armaan she has that MB-type relationship born of instinct where soulful looks and physical desires rule the roost. But she also loves Sid for the comfort and security and the selfless love he gives her, and it is the kind of love that blossoms with time.
She knows that whatever she chooses, she WILL lose something. And worse than that, one of the two people she loves the most will lose everything.
Of course she would be afraid to decide! We can't disdain her as selfish.
Riddhima is one of the most "real" characters I have come across in TV. She is good, but she has her weaknesses. She is kind and compassionate, but she has needs too. Yeah, maybe Armaan was made out to be too much larger than life, but isn't that how we perceive the person we are "in love" with?
Somehow, I can't find it in me to blame Riddhima, though I do get impatient with her sometimes. And that just makes her more real.

Amazing post. Makes a lot of sense. And I too like Riddhima...yes, she is annoying at times, foolish at times, selfish at times....but the point is .....aren't all of us like that? why be so judgmental?

She's a realistic character...complicated like humans...not completely good or completely bad...but somewhere in the middle....and so I like the character and what the writers have made out of her...

Hey thanks Mayur (unless you have another name?)!!! 😳😳
Riddhima is such a refreshing change from all the typical heroines, and that is what makes the show so watchable. Because otherwise the situations were toooo filmy for me! πŸ˜› But seriously, Riddhima's heart is good. I mean, even though she loves Armaan so much, yet she gives up her love for Sid's happiness. That she should miss Armaan is a very obvious thing. She was committed to that guy once! They were engaged. And that is how "good girls" are right? Once they commit and that's it.
Riddhima is really very brave. And though I wish for a better ending for Sid, I am glad that his torture is kind of over. He will move on one day.
I'm not so sure about AR though. In a tv show, yeah, they'll live happily ever after. But real life isn't so easy. How Riddhima deals with life, that is something I would like to know personally. 😊
