Geet pushed Maan's door open without knocking and walked inside. Maan was leaning against the wall. He had his hands crossed and he was looking down at his feet.
"You never finished your breakfast," Geet said, holding up his plate.
"What are you doing here?" Maan turned away from her.
"Wow, I didn't know such a sadu like you could also be this sensitive," Geet smiled walking to Maan.
"Geet, just leave. I want to be alone," he said looking up at her. Geet was surprised to see how red his eyes had become. She could swear she also saw tears at the corners of his eyes.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." He turned away from her, again.
"Stop trying to avoid me!" She walked in front of him. "What's wrong?"
"I already told you. Nothing." He quickly wiped away a tear that had escaped his eyes.
Geet looked deeply into Maan's pain filled eyes. He had been through something. Something huge, just like her. He had been through something, that, to this day, still brought tears to his eyes, something that put him through mental agony every day. There was a painful past hiding behind his usual angry face. She could tell because she felt the same way. Geet knew he didn't want to talk about whatever was bothering him. She had felt the same way when people tried to talk to her about Arjun after he had died. She was still like that.
"Okay, fine. You don't have to tell me anything. But just know, if you ever need to talk to anyone about anything, I'll always be here for you," she smiled, placing her hand tenderly on his shoulder. Maan smiled back at her. She could see a sense of gratitude in his red eyes. "And why is it so dark in here?" Geet suddenly said loudly, trying to lighten up the mood. "Maybe that's why you're always so angry!" she said walking over to the windows. She pulled the curtains open with her free hand and opened all three of the windows in his room. She turned back to Maan, "See how much better it looks in here? A happier environment makes for a happier mood," she said, happily.
"Says who?"
"Says me!" Geet said happily. "Here," she said holding out the plate, "finish your breakfast. You must be hungry. You only ate a few bites... before I totally drove you away. Sorry."
"Thanks, but I'm not very hungry," he waved the plate away.
"You know," Geet leaned in close to Maan to whisper, "whenever my brother doesn't eat enough, he's always really cranky. I think you have the same problem too." Maan gave her a deathly look. "What? It's true!" Geet said, holding her ground. She picked up a few pieces of the scrambled eggs with the fork and held it out near his mouth. "Come on, just eat a little," she cooed to Maan, as if he were a baby.
"I told you I'm not hungry!" Maan pushed her hand away, causing the eggs to fall onto his shirt. "GEET!" he yelled, shaking the eggs off his shirt.
"I - AM - SOOO - SORRY!" Geet stammered, putting the plate down. She tried to help him shake the eggs off his shirt. "I'm so sorry!" she continued to repeat. "Sorry! Sorry!"
"Chup!" Maan held her hands. "Bilkul chup!"
Geet looked into his eyes just for a second before looking back down at his shirt. "I'm so sorry!" Geet continued to say. "I really am! Umm...Let me go find a rag or something to clean it up. I'm so sorry!"
Maan let go of Geet's hands. "I told you I wasn't hungry! Why'd you have to try to feed me? I'm not a child! And I don't need your help!" Maan yelled at Geet.
"I was just trying to be nice!" Geet yelled back.
"No one asked you to do this for me!"
"It's called being thoughtful, something that obviously doesn't exist in your dictionary!"
"No one has ever talked to Maan Singh Khurana like that. NEVER!"
"Maan Singh Khurana," she laughed. "Who even refers to themselves like that nowadays? Seriously, what do you think of yourself?"
"Geet!"
"Geet!" Geet repeated. "That's all you can ever say. Geet!"
"Geet!"
"See!"
"Just leave, okay. Just leave! I don't want you in my room! And I don't need your help!" he repeated.
"Oh please, trust me, I don't want to be in your dark lifeless room all alone here with you, okay! You're not that important. And FYI, you're a normal human being just like the rest of us and you can't do everything by yourself. Yes, you can probably take care of your shirt by yourself, but there are some things in this world that you just can't do by yourself and you're going to need help, okay?" She yelled. "Wow, I can't believe I wanted to be friends with you!" Geet ran out of the room.
