Hi everyone!
Sorry for changing the title of my thread. I wanted to shorten it so I can have enough room to write the title of the next Shot I will be doing π.
Thanks again for those that Commented and/or Hit the Like Button!
Yes, I've been updating this one a lot π³ don't worry I haven't forgotten about the other fic. Just this one is so much straight forward to write. Been taken breaks in between my readings to write a little here and there.
Part 11: Cutting
All Ties
Heer
was standing in the Singh's kitchen staring at the oven intensely trying to
make out what was happening inside using the lone oven light as her only guide. "The more you stare the longer it's going to
take," Meher said laughing at her cute behavior. "Relax Heer the cakes will rise."
She
gave a soft grin. "I can't help it I
always get so anxious. For whatever
reason they never turn out right at home.
I can make cookies blind folded if I have to. I've gotten really good at those. Prem loves my cookies but I want to be able
to make something more than that for him."
"How
did the crumbles turned out last week?" Meher inquired.
"He
devoured them. I made six peach mini
crumbles and I had to fight him for the last one," Heer smiled.
"That's
great! See you're getting there. You've got cookies and crumbles down," Meher
encouraged.
"I
guess I do. Thanks so much for teaching
me all these recipes Meher," Heer replied.
"Stop
thanking me that's what friends do," she smiled. She checked the clock on the wall and sighed,
"Where are the boys? They said they were
going to bring home some lunch for us and look at that it's already 1:30. I'm starving."
"Maybe
the basketball game ran over?" Heer suggested.
"I
suppose so. So how are things going with
the girls? Are they still giving Prem a
tough time?" Meher asked.
Heer
frowned slightly, "Sort of. Veera's
still slightly apprehensive about it. Ashlesha
and Sanjana are fine but I think it has more to do with the fact their starting
to date Prem's friends."
"Ah,
so it worked, huh? This little match
making thing you and Preet set up.
Haha...I think Prem's right you guys should go into business together,"
Meher laughed.
"Well,
they've only been dating a little while so we will have to wait in see," Heer
replied.
"In
that case Veera will have to come around.
And didn't her fiance Nihaal hit it off with Prem? I thought I saw them talking a whole lot at
the party," Meher asked.
"Yeah
they did. They've met up for lunch a
couple of times too," Heer said.
"You
know Heer I have to say I really admire you," Meher said.
"Admire
me?" she repeated looking at her confused.
"Why?"
"If
I was in your situation I don't think I would have the strength to
forgive. I mean I know Prem and he's a
nice guy who committed a stupid mistake but still...I can only imagine how hard
it must have been for you," Meher said and then quickly apologized, "I'm sorry
I didn't mean to go off on this topic.
Didn't mean to pick at old wounds."
"I
know. Tell you the truth I struggled a
lot with it. I'm surprised too that I
was able to forgive him. But he proved
to me that he really wanted to start over and make things right...and well a part
of me never stopped loving him. So I
guess that's the part I ended up listening too.
And I'm happy I did," Heer replied.
"I'm really happy with him."
Meher
smiled, "I really am glad for you both.
Now if he does anything stupid again don't hesitant to call on me. I'll straighten him out...he considers me like
his sister."
Heer
laughed, "Okay."
Meher
moved to the pantry and pulled out a package of puris and said, "I don't know
where those two ran off to but I'm so hungry.
Let's make some panipuri?"
"An
excellent idea and when they finally come back we won't let them have any off
it!" Heer replied.
Meher
laughed, "Exactly!"
Several
minutes later the girls were busy gorging themselves on their homemade blend of
panipuri and dahi puris. "This was the
best idea. I really don't care what the
boys bring home I just want to eat this," Heer said.
"I
know. I'm almost full too," Meher
giggled. The girls turned their heads to
the sound of the front door opening announcing the arrival of their partners. "Well, look who finally decided to show up."
Meher reprimanded as her husband entered the kitchen carrying a basketball.
"Sorry,"
Preet apologized giving her a kiss on the cheek. "We ran into some traffic."
"It
was pretty bad," Prem said as he limped his way into the room. His knee was bandaged but there were stains
of red seeping through.
Heer
immediately got up and went to inspect him.
"What happened to you?" she asked with worry.
"Nothing
really...just scraped my knee," he simply stated.
Preet slightly snickered at the comment causing Prem to give him a hard
stare telling him to keep quiet.
Meher
looked at her husband suspiciously, "Care to share?"
Preet
shrugged his shoulders feigning ignorance.
"Hey panipuri and dahi puri...awesome!"
"Sorry
we didn't get a chance to pick up anything to eat," Prem apologized.
"It's
all right," Meher replied. "Sit down
Prem."
"We
need to ice that knee," Heer said. Prem
sat down and started eating the puris along with Preet. He was still sweating a little from the
basketball game he had played and he was wiping it away with his forearms. Preet gave him a cautious look telling to
knock it off. Heer came back with an ice
pack handling it to him and gasped, "Prem what's wrong with your eye? I see a faint line of purple."
"Is
that a black eye?" Meher questioned and then eyed her husband, "Gigs up Mr. Singh
tell the truth now and you won't be sleeping downstairs on the couch tonight."
"I
told you this wouldn't work," Prem muttered to Preet. He used his shirt to wipe the sweat off his
face taking along with it the makeup that had been covering up his black eye.
"Oh
my God, your eye...Prem?!" Heer cried.
"Well,
maybe if you didn't sweat like a baboon it wouldn't be noticeable," Preet
retorted. "You kept wiping it off with
your hands."
Meher
grabbed a tissue and handed it to Preet, "Remove," she sternly ordered. He frowned but obediently wiped his face
revealing an emerging black eye. "Preet! What were two doing? Why did you guys feel the need to hide this
from us?" she shouted.
"She's
right. You didn't think we'd notice you
guys wearing makeup?" Heer asked.
"Because
this is what we didn't want to hear. You
guys going crazy over what happened at the basketball court," Preet replied.
"Crazy? You both have black eyes and Prem's knee
still bleeding!" Meher yelled. "How are
we supposed to be acting? I swear I can't
understand what exactly your knuckle head of a brain is thinking sometimes."
"We
just got into a little discussion with the opposite team," Prem replied while
Heer fussed over his eye. "Ahhh,
Sweatheart it hurts when you do that."
He pulled her hands away and took the ice pack intended for his knee and
placed it on his eye.
"A
discussion?" Heer and Meher both repeated with disbelief.
"It
just ended with some fists," Preet chuckled.
"But you girls should be happy to know we took real good care of
them. If you think we look bad you
should see what those two look like...ahaha," giving Prem a high five. The girls rolled their eyes at their immature
behavior.
"Don't
get angry at us they are the ones that started it," Prem explained.
"Where
exactly did you get the makeup from?" Meher asked handing her husband an ice
pack.
"CVS,"
Preet simply replied and popped another panipuri in his mouth. "Didn't know there were so many brands and
skin types...lucky for us the sales clerk was nice to help us out."
"What
she apply make up for you?" Meher laughed.
"No,
we did that ourselves," Preet replied smiling proudly showing his pearly white
teeth.
"Hey
should we fry up some samosas? Let's
just have these snacks for lunch," Prem said.
"I
could go for some pakoras too," Preet said and gave a sideways glance to his
wife.
Meher
crossed her arms, "So you come home late...making us starve and you didn't bring
anything for us to eat...lied that you got into a fight and you want me to make
you pakoras?"
"Please?"
Preet asked looking at her with pleading eyes.
"Go
wash your hands so you can help me make the batter," Meher ordered.
"I'm
injured," Preet pouted.
"Not
your hands," Meher said.
"Why
don't you ask Mr. Chef over there?" Preet continued to whine.
"Because
he hurt his knee. If Prem can cook you
can at least learn a few things," Meher said giving him the if you don't do
what I say you are in trouble look.
"Yes
dear," Preet obediently answered and went to the sink.
"Prem,
where are you going?" Heer asked as she pulled a package of frozen samosas from
the freezer.
"To
the bathroom. Just want to clean up a
bit," he replied. "Wash my face and get
the rest of this make up off."
"I
think we need to rebandage your knee," Heer suggested.
"After
lunch. I'll be okay. You help Meher. She's going to need help with Preet in the
kitchen," the minute he finished his sentence a sound of crashing steel and plastic
mixing bowls falling onto the floor echoed through the room along with an
exasperated yell from Meher. "See." He
grinned while Heer chuckled. "I'll be
back," he said giving her kiss on the cheek.
*******************************************************************
Heer
gently swirled the lemon drop martini in her hand looked on with delight as the
waiter brought the appetizers to their table; an order of bruschetta, crispy
zucchini frittes, and stuffed mushrooms.
"I absolutely love this place," she smiled as she unwrapped her
silverware from the crisp white linen it was tucked inside of. "Why don't we come here that often?"
"You
know I don't know why?" Veera replied.
"Why don't we? We always have
really good food here."
"It's
because we go for happy hours and drink specials," Sanjana answered and then
took a sip of her martini.
"So,
Miss Veera...have you guys decided on a date?" Ashlesha asked.
"I
want a spring wedding so we are thinking March or early April before the
weather gets unbearably hot," Veera replied. "So mark your calendars for those
months of 2012."
"It's
going be here right in town or you guys going to do one of those destination
weddings?" Sanjana asked before popping a mushroom cap into her mouth.
"Las
Vegas?" Heer inquired with a laugh.
"You can get married in one of the chapels...they have hundreds of those
wedding chapels there."
Veera
shook her head, "Oh God no Heer. I would
never do that in. It just seems so
tacky."
"I'm
sure they have some really beautiful venues there. If you exclude all those strange 24 hour
chapels the city of Vegas probably knows how to handle weddings the best. Plus with all those hotels on the strip you
don't have to worry about the family.
Guests can entertain themselves with all the casinos, the shopping, and
other entertainment Vegas has to offer," Ashlesha said. "I also heard they have special wedding
packages and things. Could prove light
in the pocket book, you know what I mean?"
"I
never thought of it that way," Veera mused.
"But no I think if I can I want an outdoor wedding by the beach."
"That
sounds so romantic," Sanjana replied.
"Well,
it is on my wish list. Nihaal and I are
checking out some more venues next week so I'll keep you guys in formed. I just hope I don't turn into a
bridezilla...getting all crazy and being a complete perfectionist about my
wedding," Veera replied and then munched on some zucchini frittes.
"Yea,
it's horrible to see it happen. I was
once a bridesmaid for this college friend.
She completely flipped out on one of her dress fittings. Me and rest of the bridesmaids had to calm
her down," Heer said. She took a bite of
bruschetta and then eyed Ashlesha and Sanjana who both gave her a suspicious
look. "So..." she simply stated.
Veera
smiled, "Yes, details."
"Nothing
to report. Rishabh's been a complete
gentleman," Ashlesha replied. "It's been
really nice getting to know him. And
that's all I'm going to say on the subject."
"Oh
come on," Sanjana pressed. "Any sparks?"
"Look
who's talking...what about you and Prashant?" Ashlesha inquired.
Sanjana's
face blushed, "It's going well."
The
girls all giggled at her reaction. "I
should say so by the way you are turning red!" Ashlesha laughed.
"Look
I'm just taking one day at a time. I
don't want to get ahead of myself you know what I mean?" Sanjana said.
"I
understand," Veera nodded. "If
everything works out I guess you will have Heer and Preet to thank."
"Thanks
Heer," Ashlesha and Sanjana both said.
"I
just introduced you guys. The rest is up
to you...like I said if no sparks happen at least you got yourself a new friend,"
Heer replied with a smile. "And you're
welcome. They are both really great
guys."
"Rishabh
is," Ashlesha said with a grin.
"Oh,
I think we finally got a confession out of her," Veera teased.
They
girls continued chatting, drinking, and eating their appetizers when Heer
noticed a familiar person walking their way.
She swallowed uncomfortably.
Veera noticed the change in complexion on her friend's face. "Heer?
You okay?" she asked.
"It's
Roshni," Heer uttered.
Ashlesha's
eyes widen, "Roshni...the Roshni?" she whispered.
"What
other Roshni do we know?" Sanjana replied.
The
girls all looked up as Roshni made her presence known at the table. "Well, hello Heer. Nice to see you again," she greeted giving a
fake smile.
Heer
gave a cautious half grin, "You too Roshni."
"You
girls look like you are celebrating something.
A party for fiance stealing?" she replied snidely. "What do they say birds of a feather flock
together? They teach you or are you
teaching them?"All of Heer's friends gave her a glaring look which she
completely ignored.
"I'd
appreciate it if you leave my friends alone.
If you have something to say to me then just say it," Heer simply
stated. She had felt pity for her the
last time she had seen her because she was hopelessly drunk but this time it
was different, she was purposely trying to make a scene with her.
Roshni
gave a sneering chuckle. "Fine. Don't think this will be the end of me. Sooner or later Prem's going to go back to
his mother and I'll be there. You'll
see. And he'll leave you again just like
he did before and you'll be left with nothing.
I have family on my side and you have nothing. Nothing seems to be all you'll ever have."
"I
think you should just leave," Veera replied sternly jumping into the
conversation unable to take the insults Heer was receiving. "I don't know what kind of delusional world
you are living in...he's no longer your man or fiance...having trouble letting go? Can't get over the fact that he finally
realized what he had taken for granted and went back to Heer...that's probably
one of the smartest things he's done for himself. Stop trying to create all this drama and
making these empty threats...it's really quite pathetic."
Heer
glanced over at Veera with appreciative surprised by her sudden outburst. She then looked at Roshni, "Prem's closest
aunt...Madhuri Auntie knows along with his cousins...they came and visited last
week and they were all happy to see me again and disapprove of the way his
mother's been handling things. So I
don't know what family you're referring too."
The girls at the table gave smirking smiles as Roshni's face reflected a
stunned expression. "I'm only going to
say this nicely once. Please leave us
alone or I'll request the restaurant to ask you to leave because you're
bothering us." Roshni scoffed slightly
and then without another word left the table.
The rest of the girls all looked at Heer with concern. "You going to be okay?" Sanjana asked.
"Yeah,
I'll be fine. I can't believe I actually
felt sorry for her once," Heer replied.
"The nerve of that woman!" Ashlesha
complained.
"She
doesn't deserve your sympathy. She
obviously has trouble letting go," Veera said.
"Didn't Prem leave his firm because of her?"
"She's
not going to purposely cause trouble now is she?" Sanjana asked with great
concern.
"You
mean restraining order crazy?" Ashlesha replied. "I hope that doesn't happen to you two. That would be horrible."
"That's
it you're not allowed to walk to your car alone after work. One of us has to accompany you," Veera
commanded.
"And
you can't go and get coffee by yourself either," Sanjana added. "One of us will go with you on your coffee
break."
"Yes,
one of us has to be with you at all times," Ashlesha nodded.
"Guys,
don't you think you are taking this a little out of hand?" Heer replied. "I'm not some child that needs to be walked
across the street. I can handle it on my
own."
"Prem
won't be too happy if something happens to you," Sanjana said.
"You're
going to tell him about this right?" Ashlesha asked. "I think you should."
"I
don't want to worry him," Heer said.
"Besides nothing happened. It's
not like she threatened to do bodily harm to me."
"I
think you should tell him," Veera said.
"She was his problem and he's tired handling her but now she's starting
to bother you. Hiding things like this
is only going cause more problems in your relationship. You guys need to work together to get rid of
her."
Heer
sighed, "I really don't want to be talking about this anymore. Can we please move onto a different topic?" The girls shot each other glances and then
complied with her request.
*******************************************************************
Prem
looked down at his side and smiled at how their hands intertwined as they
walked hand in hand down the street. "So
how was your day at work?" he asked.
"It
was okay," Heer replied. "Just a little
tired. Are you going to stay over
tonight?"
"You
want me to?" Prem chuckled.
"On
days like theses...I just want to be able to curl up on my favorite pillow," Heer
replied.
"I've
become a pillow now?" Prem replied arching his eyebrow.
"I
have trouble sleeping when I don't have my pillow," Heer teased. "My pillow's super comfy."
"Well,
in that case I guess I have to...can't deprive you of your sleep," Prem smiled
warmly. He understood what Heer
meant. It was strange how they had gotten
use to sleeping beside each other. It
was a comforting feeling knowing the person you loved was right next to
you. Prem often found when she wasn't
there that his bed felt empty and cold; resulting in a restless night's sleep.
"How
are things at work?" Heer asked.
"Going
really well. Mr. Tonaka's a pretty cool
guy," Prem grinned. "So should we be
adventurous and just go into one of these restaurants for dinner?"
"Sure
why not. I've never eaten at any of
these places," Heer answered.
"Let's
try this one...Paladar...Latin cuisine," Prem suggested.
"Sounds
good and looks like a really fun place," Heer replied as she heard the playful
music coming from the open area patio seating.
A
few minutes later they were drinking margaritas and eating their dinner
enjoying the lively Latin music that was buzzing in the restaurant. "Try the chicken it's really good," Prem said
cutting her a piece and placing it on her plate.
"Here
have a fish taco," Heer replied serving him a shell. As she went to go and take another sip from
her margarita her eyes widen and she muttered, "Not again."
Prem
stared at her wondering what she was talking about. "What...not again?" he asked.
Heer
saw Roshni on her way out with some clients and then turned back into the
restaurant like she had left something.
She lowered her head not wanting to attract any attention towards their
table and picked at her food. Prem
continued looking at her. "Heer? Something wrong?"
"No
nothing," she replied.
"Then
why won't you look at me when you're talking?" he asked. He frowned and began looking around the
restaurant when he saw what was causing her to act this way. "Roshni?" he uttered. "Did she do something to you?" His voice was low and serious. "She did...didn't she?" he continued when Heer
remained silent. Prem didn't get to
inquire any further when he felt the presence of someone at their table. He glanced up and gave a really annoyed
look. "What do you want?"
"I
was just minding my manners and saying hello to two people I know," Roshni
simply replied.
"Hello,"
Prem said. "Now you can go."
"You
know that's not really nice. I haven't
seen you in a while and this is how you treat me?" Roshni asked.
"If
you think I'm going to invite you to sit down with us you are sadly mistaken,"
Prem replied through gritted teeth.
Heer
gently stared at her margarita; her two fingers on the base of the glass
rocking it softly the liquid swirling inside.
She had this strong desire to dump the contents onto Roshni for ruining
their dinner.
"I
don't see why you are being so hostile I haven't even said anything to you,"
Roshni said.
"Well,
I don't know maybe...hmmm let's see...you threatened to ruin my reputation,
pretended to call me up for a business meeting only to be drunk, kept making
passes at me even after I clearly explained to you I wasn't interested, and you
can't seem to understand I'm no longer your fiance. I think those are some pretty good reasons
for my attitude," Prem replied.
"You
know Prem as much as you may hate your mother you will eventually miss
her. Just like she I will simply be
waiting...you'll come back around...you left once what guarantee you have that you
won't leave again?" Roshni remarked.
Heer
dramatically stood up from the table drink in hand, "I've tolerated enough of
your crap. You really are desperate. He's not interested in you. I don't know what he else he has to do make
you understand it's over. We've
exchanged apartment keys...his family knows we're dating again and beside his
mother they approve...we've been talking about going away for a romantic
weekend...is that enough for you to hear?"
A sneering chuckle escaped Roshni's throat at her comments. "Not enough?
Fine. He calls me every day to
asks how I'm doing...there isn't a day that goes by where he doesn't tell me he loves
me. And we've been sleeping together too
and I know he's never touched you once.
So just leave us alone!" Prem
looked at Heer in alarm knowing what was going to happen next. He scrunched his face and grimaced as Roshni
let out a scream and quickly stood up dragging Heer out of the restaurant. He muttered to a passing waiter, "We'll be
back," thrusting his credit card into his hand.
Once outside Heer vented, "I just want to slap her."
"You
dumped your margarita on her," Prem said.
"Sorry
for over reacting," Heer apologized.
Prem
chuckled as he pulled her into a hug, "Nah, she deserved it." He gave her a kiss on the forehead, "You've
taken to dumping drinks on people. I
wonder if this is something our kids are going to inherit." Heer looked at him amazed that this was first
time he mentioned having children together.
"So, are you going to tell me about the other time you bumped into
Roshni?" he asked rather sternly.
Heer
gave an apologetic look, "Sorry, I didn't want to worry you. Nothing like that happened. It was girls' night out and she just happened
to show up at the restaurant we were eating at.
We exchanged some words...Veera kind of stood up for you..."
"She
did?" Prem replied with surprise.
"She
said the smartest thing you did was to come back to me," Heer explained.
"Well,
she's right about that," Prem smiled.
"Anyways
I told her to stop bothering us and if she didn't I would tell the restaurant
to tell her to leave," Heer said.
Prem
nodded and felt guilty that his problem had suddenly become her problem too. "Okay next time this happens...if it happens
again which I highly doubt now that you've basically told her off and dump the
margarita on her...you have to tell me.
She's my problem and I wish I was able to handle her better so she
didn't start bothering you."
"You're
right and I will. And she's no longer
just your problem Prem...she's ours. We
will deal with her," Heer said. "We're
together now so your problems are mine and my problems are yours. We have to work together."
He
smiled at her comment, "Right."
They
both turned their heads as they heard the front door of the restaurant open and
a wet Roshni emerged onto the sidewalk.
She looked at them still holding each other in an intimate embrace and
sighed before walking away. "You think
it's safe to return to the restaurant after what I did?" Heer asked.
"Well,
I gave the waiter my credit card to pay for dinner. I need to get it back. I think it's okay," Prem replied.
"You
think they'll let us come back here and eat again? The food is really good," Heer said.
Prem
chuckled, "If not we can always order out.
Then they don't have to worry about you dumping drinks on people." Heer playfully slapped his chest for the last
comment. "Come on," he said and held her
hand as they went back into the restaurant.
*******************************************************************
So Part 11 was my ode to my Korean dramas that I
watch. There is always this crazy ex-girlfriend that can't seem to
understand the idea of a breakup when the lead guy finds his soul mate and
decides to break it off with the girlfriend. They follow the lead guy
around and cause all sorts of trouble and are vindictive and what not. And it takes the idiot lead pairs forever to get rid of her because they are just too darn nice...plus the ex-girlfriend is pretty good at manipulating π
Yes not really modern/reality well maybe for some people. Anyways,
I thought if Raj was "Mr. Nice Guy" than Roshni had to be "Miss Can't Let
Go". Part 12 is on its wayβ¦and yes it's a steamer? Hahaβ¦well, I'll
leave that verdict for you guys to decide on how Spicy it is.
