Dear Friends,

Welcome to Sensational South Music Galaxy,the World of South Indian Music

I have already done two threads on Music which helped me to hear a lot of songs and learned about new artists.

Thanks to all those who shared their favorites👏👏⭐️..

Now I am back in our Sensational South Forum with this thread😊.

Music in every language is precious and special to everyone..
In other words Music doesn't need any Language..

We really don't need to know the language to enjoy good music.Many of our Music Directors have proved this statement true by making the whole world humm to their tunes.

But this thread is dedicated to the Music from South Indian Movies and Albums😳.So lets stick on to Tamil,Telugu,Kannada and Malayalam songs.

South Indian Music

South Indian Music is sometimes categorised into Devotional, Classical and Popular Folk music. Rhythm of popular folk music express a vitality which stems from the closeness of its contact with the life of a people.

Classical music deepens and refines these associations with life and its moving ragas and melodies have withstood the passage of time and remain almost timeless.Carnatic classical music is related to speakers of the Dravidian group of languages...

Wow, thanks for this wonderful thread Anjali... 😊 Coming from a super musically inclined family, my life revolves around music, music and only music..! 😃 I have an eclectic taste though.. I listen to anything and everything ranging from Carnatic to folk to western. Being a singer myself, I have an innumerable number of favorites, for both singers and songs 😆 and I think everybody has their own strengths, weaknesses and niche areas.. So its really hard to dislike someone but I shall try my best to name a few of my most favs here..

1. Singer
Carnatic - Bharat Ratna winner MS Subbalakshmi (omg her voice is divine..) Balamuralikrishna, TM Krishna, GN Balasubramanian, Semmangudi, KJY, Sudha Ragunathan, Sowmya, Nithyasree, Bombay Jayashri, Unnikrishnan and alot more..

Playback - TL Maharajan, TMS, KJY, Hariharan, Karthik, Chitra, Shreya Ghoshal, Janaki ma, Susheela ma, Bombay Jayashri, Unnikrishnan, Chinmayi, Haricharan, Benny Dayal, Krish and many more..

All of them are technically impeccable, some delve in the intricacies of the song or the alaap, some are soulful.. evoking so much feelings etc.
Karthik's voice just makes me melt everytime i listen to it.. i swear!! Just listen to his enakkoru girlfren rendition in the following link... omg im meltingggg!!! 😆😆

2. Music director
The one and only ARR, of course IR, Yuvan and Harris, GV Prakash (omg his many of his songs are gahhhh.. ARR blood naa summava?? 😉😛)

Am a huge, crazy, mad, diehard fan of ARR.. 😉 A rahmaniac but not fanatic.. Of course IR as well.. he's no inferior in anyway.. Many of his songs have stood the test of time.. just that I grew up listening to ARR songs so relate to them better.. 😊

3. Song (Be it Filmi or Non Filmi Tracks)
Oh dear, really have loads loads loads of favs.. it keeps changing almost everyday.. all ARR and IR songs are my favs.. My current fav is Iragai pole from Naan Mahaan Alla.. Since I just watched the movie, the song remains fresh in my memory and I think Yuvan's voice is sooo stylish and unique, just like ARR's.. 😊

4. Lyricist (Without them songs seem incomplete)
Dun really look at lyrics that much but love the great Kannadasan, Vaali, Vairamuthu to name a few.. I love people who write meaningful lines without double/triple meaning stuff.. and of course their command of the Thamizh language is amazing..

5. Anything about South Indian Music (Tamil,Telugu,Kannada,Malayalam)
Just some info I know about Carnatic music.. Its one of the oldest and the most complex form of music comprising 175 taalas (this component is not present in any other kinds of music, which makes carnatic music really special..), 72 main raagas called the melakarthas, out of which other raagas branch out yielding thousands of raagas.. Takes years of consistent effort to master since it involves squeezing your creative juices with the manodharmam.. having an alaap (the aa aaa that they do), neraval, swaram, taanam etc.. Have a trinity of composers (the main 3) who are Saint Thygaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Shyama Sastri.. most of their compositions are in Telugu and Sanskrit, but there are also many others in Kannada and Tamil..

Ok I dun wanna elaborate further.. romba bore adichiteno?? 😆

@ Priya, I'm happy to note that our current fav remains the same (Iragai Pole)😊..I too love the song for the same reasons,except for the fact that I couldn't watch the movie yet.. YSR rocks in this song...

One of my All time Favorites😳..I just remember seeing this song once in Sun Music and went crazy for it.

I still remember bugging my sweet friends from IF😆 asking about this song without even knowing the Music Director, Movie Name or anything..
