In a candid interview with us, Pooja shares her experience in small screen so far and her dreams and aspirations.
Pratigya has become a household name now although you began with Purvi in Kitni Mohabbat Hai...how does it feel?
It feels fantastic when being recognized by the audience at any public place. I remember, once I was roaming in a shopping mall, one of my fans came up to me requesting to accept to Krishna's love instead of acting pricey. I was overwhelmed to see the kind of response the show and my character has got so far.
How did television happen to you? Were you related to industry?
Well, I don't have a concrete family background in the industry. However, my father, an engineer by profession in ONGC and brother were inclined towards acting in theatres on a leisure basis. I had never had a remotest dream to make career in acting. In fact, I had and still have a dream to pursue MBA and eventually become a branch manager in Axis bank particularly for I had my childhood memories attached with the bank. The story goes like I would admire the bank manager of Axis Bank sitting in his cabin and would always dream of taking his place someday. I have no clue whats' in store for me, acting or cabin (smiles). As far as my entering the small screen is concerned, it was no less than a fluke shot. I had uploaded my portfolio made accidentally with no intentions of getting into acting during university days while performing in a fashion show and put it on facebook. Ekta Kapoor spotted me on facebook who at that time was looking for a fresh face for Kitni Mohabbat Hai for which I was chosen.
Your character has gone through lots of ups and downs in terms of emotions; are you satisfied with the way it has been shaped?
I love the concept of the show which is meant for the empowerment of women. I'm more than satisfied to be a part of it. The best about the playing the character of Pratigya is that each time I come on the sets and I challenge myself to give my best so that each one among the audience connect with it and find a realism in it.
What is the next twist in the show?
Well, as anticipated by the audience, Pratigya and Krishna will finally fall in love and take their marriage to another level.
If you get stuck in such a situation where Pratigya is in reel-life, how would you deal it?
Unlike, Pratigya, I would never marry Krishna. I belong to an educated family and I'm myself well-read. So, if something of this sort happens to me, I would first try to solve things amicably. And if situation still persists, will take a legal step like Pratigya too did take. However, circumstances of nobody helping her out won't be in my case in real life. I know how to fight for my rights.
You have not been seen in any of the reality shows. Why is it so?
Its' definitely not an intentional effort for no one has so far approached me for them. I would love to do a reality show where I can showcase my talent as a dancer. However, my favourite reality show will always be Fear Factor and I wish, I could be the part of it.
If given a chance, which character among the current shows would you like to play?
Well, I will go for Tapasya played by Rashmi Desai in Uttaran. I simply love that character which is as important as the main lead Ichcha and Veer in the show. I personally believe, it is the most powerful character and Rashmi has done justice to her role. Kudos to her;in fact, I happened to bump into her one day and did compliment her. She too returned the compliment as far as my career goes. We have a great potential to be friends. Our wavelengths match amazingly.
Any plans to venture into films?
Films are definitely in mind but not at the moment. I want to explore my acting skills on small screen. I have just begun and have a long way which will have films too by the grace of God Almighty.
