"The upcoming girls and boys who dance to vulgar tunes and words and sing them, what is their identity?" asked Lata in an interview.

Lata, who was two years old when sound came to Indian cinema and just 12 when she began singing for movies, asked: "If people are looking for genuine talent, why are they singing our songs and compositions? Don't they have anything new to offer?"
Only thing I slightly disagree with Lataji....how can they sing original songs? Who will compose for them? 😕 Millions rever Lataji and other greats, so naturally when they participate in contests they sing their songs.

Todays generation it not the singers who are not capable, it is the music composers who make them sing those songs. Singing talent is still there........

I Agree with u.... I dont know about other talents.... becos there was no one who could compete lataji in quality except ASHA BHOSALE..... And it is a well known fact that Lataji tried to not to allow Asha become more famous than her. but later the real talent and versatility of Asha won over Lata.... People may think she is form of saraswati.... I think every singer is blessed by goddess SARASWATI and noone is the form of SARASWATI......

About the sad songs.... there are so many sad songs that are big hit in recent pasts.... We have a colourful types of songs coming.... this variety helps us cheer all kind of songs.....

I agree only with only one point of Lataji.... I dont like the remix.... Especially of old beautiful songs.... Mujhe buddha mil gaya was not as much vulgar as it is shown in the remix

Mr. Abhi... Everybody has his on opinion to say... under freedom of speech....I cant make exception to Lataji.... If u say HR is arrogant.... Lataji is also arrogant...

Let me make clear I m not comparing the two.... HR is far behind Lataji in talent ... I m just comparing the behaviour

I love not only music but all kind of arts and sports..... I appreciate the good and am straight for the bad things

There is no doubt that Lataji is the best in singing, but it is an also widely known fact that she is arrogant. She never helped her own sister. Asha Bhosle has openly discussed this. Music diretors also discussed her behavior towards other singers.

this was not hidden. Her attitude in this article is also very elitist.

I find Sonu Nigams attitude kind of similar. He thinks he is the greatest and nobody comes close to him. I remember is acceptance speach in an awards show which was so inappropriate. No doubt he is an awsome singer though.

Being talented does not mean you can be arrogant. Take a page from The Great Bachchan who after being the greatest is the most humble.

Hey Abhi wasnt the movie 'Saaz' on the sisters?I caught up the movie on B4U recently....it showed the elder sis is concerned and caring abt her sis personally, but never let her outgrow her professionally....even I was under same impression.Nevertheless she is a grt singer

I dont agree with Sonu's arrogance someone mentioned. Circumstances were diff then n now.Today, look at the struggle he has put behind today's success...its not that he doesnt respect, but he doesnt do chaaploosi...thts what I think. He respects other singers. Look at his joy when he finds the youngsters in the talent hunts give good performance.Bacchan saab tho...unka koyi competition nahi hai....

its a dirty world out there...just look at this year's awards....against dheere jalna n piyu bole, aashiq banaaya aapne won.How disappointing can that get.singers put so much practise and such worthless songs take away all the glory.where is the result for hardwork?doesnt it send wrong signals to young aspirants abt easy fame....dukh tho zaroor hoga...mere hisaab se...

Well very said! Our predecessors have left us so much wealth in literature and music. It makes me sad to think that our generation has just lost an ear for all the richness in music. I am not saying that it is wrong to appreciate "Ashik Banaya Apne". Its a peppy number and is quite enjoyable. But I do not understand how it stands better than Piyu Bole and Dheere Jalna and what scares me more is that our youth voted it the best! Makes me wonder where we are heading. It would be such a shame if we lost/wasted this invaluable wealth our ancestors left behind for us.

I really feel happy to read some good insight that some of the kids still have. Kids like Abhi - really give us hope and encouragement. I never had the chance to become well aquainted with Indian classical. My family does not come from such a background. But my interest has grown leaps and bounds after reading some of the informative posts here. This is a great way to get people involved. Thank you all for such informative posts.
