Chapter 7:Earlier too, dadi had wanted to get Pratigya married off, but somehow the matter got delayed. But this time dadi had got serious. Pratigya didn't want an arranged marriage but she couldn't dream to refuse.
She could already imagine the scene dadi would create and she was sure that her parents would have to hear things like, 'dekh lia Shyamu! Aur choot do ladkio ko, besharmi to dekho, bado k samne juban khol rahi hai...', so she kept quiet but decided to do something about it.
She went to sleep thinking about the matter.
Morning came and Pratigya went to her father.
P: papa, aapse ek baat karni thi, agar aapke pas time ho to
Prof: ha beti, bolo; tumhare liye hamare paas waqt ki koi kami nahi
P: papa, hum kahi pe job karna chahte hain! Isse pehle ki aap log kahi pe hamari shadi kar de, hume ek baar job kar lene dijiye.
Pratigya hoped that once she got into a job, she would stay away from dadi's eyes for most of the day. At night, all would discuss about day's events and maybe the marriage topic would get postponed. Silly idea, she knew, but that was all she could think of' She hopefully looked at her father. Prof had always admired his elder daughter for being the most obedient of his children and he didn't want to break her heart.
Prof: theek hai, agar tum job karna chahti ho to hame koi problem nahi hai. Hum aaj hi Khanna saab se baat karte hain, shayad unki office mein koi vacancy ho!
But Pratigya requested her father not to inform Mr. Khanna and that she would attempt the interview on her own. The Prof was proud of her daughter and went to inform the family of this new development.
Krishna instructed Tunna n Chandu. Tunna had forgotten about the slap by now and the trio set out to work! Krishna went to the Hanuman temple and sought the lord's blessings.
The plan was simple yet effective. The census campaign was going on, Tunna and Chandu went to the representatives to 'tell' them to skip work for the day while Krishna took a register and pen and got ready to go door to door of Mamphodganj just to find out about 'the girl'.
Dadi instantly objected to Pratigya going for job! 'are, kya zarurat hai kahi naukri karne ki? Aur ab to iski shadi ki bhi baat karne wale hain na?' but the Prof reasoned with her that once Pratigya got married they didn't know if her in-laws would let her do the job, so let her do what she wants.
Dadi accepted the reasoning and gave Pratigya her blessings. Aarushi was glad that Pratigya had taken her 1st step towards being independent and told her so, once they were in their room. She took out Pratigya's royal blue salwar suit. Meanwhile Pratigya readied her documents. She had learned the basics of 'quality assurance' of Softwares and Websites from a nearby institute in the summer vacations. She did a small pooja and sought blessings from dadi and her parents. Aarushi too showered her blessings on Pratigya! Prof, Aadarsh and Pratigya were ready to leave when suddenly the door bell rang. Pratigya went to the door to see who it was'
Krishna had decided to pose as the representative and knock on each door and search for 'the girl'. He had just come from the temple and was sure that God would help him. He rang the door bell of the first house he chose. The door opened and Krishna kept looking at the bright face of the girl who stood before him in a royal blue salwar suit. He had found his girl!
