Chapter 38

Nargis and Nupur chatted as Nupur ate something, she did not like airplane food and was happy to eat what Nargis had made. They discussed work and caught on news of family. But Nupur was dying to talk about Vicky.

She said, so tell me the story with Vicky. How did you meet. Nargis told her the whole first meeting and the winks this guy had given her. Nupur listened amused at the way these two had collided. Nargis had left out the intimate part, but Nupur being nosy as ever, asked, Did he kiss you when Nargis told about the plane mishap. Nargis blushed, Well he tried but I pushed him away, she lied. Nupur, answered with a Hmm! Not believing her friend of many years. They both knew each other too well to not see through that.

Nupur let it pass, because she was happy to finally see Nargis with someone. Nupur had had her share of boyfriends. She dated and had kissed a few frogs but no prince had turned up yet. She liked men, well, their company and she had many male friends. Nargis was okay with men and they often had arugment about her going for a date with a guy on the pretext of being with Nargis. It had been fun to do these little rebellious things when in high school. Nargis was too straight laced and Nupur had been wondering for sometime now if Nargis was going to ever find herself a boyfriend and now to see her like this was a treat.

Nargis and Nupur then went off to their respective rooms to sleep, they had a long day tomorrow.

Maan and Abs had had the last minute talks about the arrangements and Abs basically getting nervous about the whole thing and Maan cajoling her to calmness. Abs had decided to wear a Banarasi saari in peacock blue with red embroidery as the border and heavy embroidery in silver in the main saree. The blouse was a brocade red with blue embroidery and the back open with thread to tie at neck and a back. The jewellery was her grandmother's old traditional kundan jewelry in uncut diamond and turquoise stones. A necklace that will drape around her neck covering it from base of throat to rest on the hem of the pallo. Matching earring that will dangle from ears to almost but not quite touching the shoulders.

Abs had set everything out and her mother and brother had arranged all the baskets to be taken to the Khurana family. They would have liked to do the thakka at home but the space would be an issue and Khurana's had insisted on doing the first ceremony here so that they did not have to rush to get things arranged the minute they landed. That had been quite helpful.

Morning came with advent of a bright day, a new beginning. To Abs, the birds were chirping merrily, the morning dew shone brighter, there was a zing in the air that smelt sweeter. Maan had woken up with a smile to finally claim his future bride. Today the traditional bethrotal will be the first of many steps that they will take together. He unhurriedly got ready for the events to follow today.

Vicky woke up to find himself thinking of Nargis and Nupur and the fact that now it will be difficult for him to meet Nargis till the wedding with both preparation and guest with Nargis acting as proverbial chaperones. He got ready while smiling at the thoughts he was having of sneaking a few moments with her today. He will love to tease Nargis and get her hackles up with everyone around. He put a plan in place to grab Nargis to himself, just then heard a knock and Maan walked in to get help with the outfit.

It was a traditional chuddar and kurta in cream with a turban in pink and gold to go around the head and a jewel to be put with feather on it. Vicky got up to help Maan decide on the turban twists. He helped organize the jewel which his father had worn in his wedding. Also a family string of pearls was to be worn today. Maan had not wanted to wear this but Vicky had convinced that traditions need to be followed and yes, a bride got to look good during the wedding ceremony while the groom had to turn out to be the clown. He said, Bhai, dulhe ho, joker banajao abhi, nahi to saari zindagi yahi karte rahoge. Bas ek baar billi maar lo, sab theek ho jaayega. Maan punched Vicky on the shoulder for the teasing and said Haan, tumhari tarah thori hai, sab kuch karlo, shaadi ho jaayegi jab honi hogi. Vicky smiled guiltily and said, Apna apna naseeb hai Bhai, tumhein woh door rakhti hai, aur hamari hamein door rehne nahi deti and winked his characteristic wink and shrugged his shoulders.

Nargis had woken up with a start, worried about everything for nothing. She was a guest at the wedding but she felt as if she was going to be on exhibition and the whole Khurana Khandan was going to check her out. She was hoping, Vicky would not get up to his usual pranks. She went and woke up Nupur and got ready and made small breakfast for them. She did not feel like eating, she felt queasy at the thought of confronting so many people. She was glad to have one supporter with her and hugged Nupur tight when she came out to the kitchen.

Nupur, said, Arre wah, aaj to lottery lag gayee. Don't worry Nags, everything will be fine. Mein hoon na.

Nargis said wahi to darr hai. Tum wahan kuch toofan mat macha dena. They are a bit stiff tradition people who follow rules and etiquettes. Tum sambhalna. Nupur said, philhaal tum tension chorro aur nashta khao.

They got ready and Nargis called up Vicky to let him know that they are coming in half an hour to help with anything that needed there. Vicky assured everything was under control but they were welcome. The Verma family would be there around noon.

Nargis and Nupur left for Khurana Mansion with gifts laden in their hands for Abs and Maan.

Muje lagta hain ke kuch na kuch tau aaj hone wala hain...between Nups and Vicky....I am in for it...plus I am so not going to like being ogled at by the KHURANA Khandaan......ugh....totally have a queezy feeling in the pit of my stomach..... keeping my fingers crossed....off we go the KHURANAS......😕

Is Vicky ki vaat lagani hai ab...Kaheen woh apne Bhai ko uksaaye nahin kuch eisa waisa karne ke liye😲..hai na? Naah, Maan eise nahin hain....Main bhi kya soch rahi hoon...aur waise bhi Paris ka jhaapar toh yaad hi hai Maan ko!!!😆

And now time for Maan to meet my little bro who act like my older bro...I'm sure they'll along fine..engg guys always bond together! 😆

Hmm, backless blouse...wow that's revealing....for a girl's never even wore sleeveless!!! PAr thodi daring toh ho hi sakti hoon...hai na? Aur pallu se back to cover rakh sakti hoon! Just better keep a watch on Maan's fingers all the time!😲😆

I know exactly what you're going through! You're worried as you know you're not quite yet a Khurana family member...it's liek you're in the middle...and you haven't spoken with your parents about your situation...Complications......but don't worry...I don't think they would put too much pressure on you...as I figure they know what you're going through...

Abhi toh puri limelight mere upar hai...tumhara bhi waqt aayega! Bas meri maddad karo abhi! Kaheen mein saree mein trip na kar jaoon! Plus yeh heavy jewellery uff kya kahoon!
