Ajay back with his mentor, Anurag Basu

Speaking about the returning to television, Television and Bollywood's acclaimed director Anurag Basu said, "Horror has always excited me. I wanted to return to the small screen with something very unique and different. Each episode on STAR One's Horror Nights is very unique and scary in its own way. I've loved to make spine chillers and hence this episode!"

And he cast his favourite actor Ajay Singh Chaudhary to play the lead role in this thriller! Know more from the actor himself

Ajay Singh Chaudhary is upbeat about the forthcoming episode titled
Dil Ka RishtaSTAR One Horror Nights as this gave him a chance to work with his favourite director Anuraag Basu, who had launched him in dark love story titled Love Story. This time, along with the renowned director, the actor has become a part of the horror series. He promises it to be different and unique for the romantic track weaved in the horror story. Ajay who plays Rahul is a shy guy, who is not even able to express his love to the girl of his dreams, and takes it as a challenge. He feels acting in a horror show is a different ball-game altogether when compared to daily soaps for the character starts and end on a definite tangent. Here's more from Ajay about working with his mentor Anurag Basu. on

How does it feel to be back with Anurag Basu after a gap of three years? What do you have to say about him as a director?

It feels great because he had called me personally to ask me if I can accompany him to Kolkata. He simply said there is some work for me and without enquiring about the role and character, I simply tagged along with him. Thats how we landed in Kolkata and shot for six to seven days. The rest of the show was shot in different parts in Mumbai. He is a genius and technically strong when it comes to his forte Direction. Being an acclaimed director, he knows whats the best for his project. He still gives the space and freedom to the actor to improvise and infuse his own bit to the character. I remember when I was doing Love Story with him, he used to tell us about the personality traits of the character and its qualities and gave us the freedom to work on and project it as we wanted. I am extremely happy to be working with him again.

After a love story, you are working with him on a horror show. How different is the experience?

Before doing Love Story, he was known for his thriller shows like STAR Bestseller. I wanted to be the part of thrillers and horror shows. During the shoot of Love Story, I had told him my secret desire to work with him on horror based show. Love Story was a love triangle in which my character Dev becomes a psycho killer at the end. But Rahul is completely different from Dev as he lacks confidence and cant express his feelings. He cant even tell Priyanka about his feelings for her.

What do you have to say about the switch from daily dramas to horror show? Did you enjoy shooting for it?

Before Anurag da had offered me to be a part of STAR One Horror Nights, I got many offers to be the part of the series from other production houses. But I was not too comfortable working with those production houses. When Anurag da decided to make an episode for them, I had to be a part of it and its great fun to be a part of horror shows. I think after playing daily soaps, it is through horror shows you get to test your skills and efficiency as an actor. I enjoyed every single moment shooting with Dada.

Whats the unique aspect to the story that you are a part of?

If you have seen STAR Bestsellers, which shows the real drama, then you will come to know the uniqueness of this episode. The characters look real and the message it send across is something really interesting. It speaks about the extent a man can go to to get his things done and demands met.

What do you think about STAR One Horror Nights?

One thing that I can advocate is that if it is produced and directed by Anurag Basu, it has to be good and there is a romantic track involved in this horror-filled episode.

Do you relate to the character of Rahul?

My character is named Rahul who is not confident and is emotional. He is the guy next door, but always shies away from expressing his love to the girl of his dreams because of his lack of confidence. Rahul is an introvert. I play an assistant to Akash who is the main lead in the show and is a photographer by profession.

Whats your biggest fear?

I fear myself (
mujhe apne aap se darr lagta hain). I am not scared of anyone but sometime I get scared of my own decisions. I am an impulsive decision maker and dont sit back and analyse a particular project.

Do you believe in the existence of paranormal beings?

Personally, I havent experienced it but I do believe that there is something beyond the understanding of the human beings. In Mumbai, there is a place called Mukesh Mills which is infamous for the occurance of unexplainable events.

What do you love to watch on TV?

Earlier before joining films I was an avid watcher of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu thi and Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii. Then Love Story happened to me. Later I started watching Dill Mill Gayye and Sarabhai VS Sarabhai.

Have you ever played a spooky prank on your friends or co-actors?

During our stay in the hotel in Kolkata, one night I knocked on Anuraag das door and disappeared from them. He opened the door to find nobody and was actually scared!

Which is your favourite Bollywood or Hollywood horror flick?

I dont like Bollywood horror flicks but among the Hollywood flicks I loved watching Twilight and Sixth Sense.

Dil Ka Rishta is a story of three people - Priyanka, her boyfriend Akash and his assistant Rahul, who is also in love with Priyanka. The girl meets with an accident and has to undergo a a heart transplant. Post the recovery, she starts seeing dead people around her. Priyanka's boyfriend Akash doesn't believe her and makes fun of her. She finds solace in Rahul, who tells her that even he sees dead people. However, Priyanka has to find the reason for the spirits haunting her. What happens at the end is sure going to get you spooked. Catch on STAR One Horror Nights, Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 pm on STAR One.
