I think his current look suits him perfectly. He is stern, straight-forward, emotionally austere, simple--just like his clothes. I don't know if I can see him in other clothes and still feel like that is the Dutta we know. In some really strange way, I can't see him in normal clothes. Plus, it's so much easier to hide in a free-flowing kurta, no?😉

I just never really thought about his clothes because it was just part of his overall look, but it is an interesting point. 😊

Can I tell you, perhaps, there is some truth to clothing makes the character. Some years back I had watched a serial wherein the lead was this strong, deceitful guy who had his reasons for being the way he was. He always wore wonderful power suits, and then all of a sudden, the CVs changed him to wearing jeans and casual shirts. It happened to coincide with his softening nature and becoming a good person. But, it DESTROYED the feel of the character. It diluted his strength. He was not the same, he became average, he lost his powerful presence in part to the clothes.

I fear the same for Dutta, and hope they do not change him too much.

He appeared in a suit when he was outside his Illaka, to create an impression in the viewers that he is a suave, debonaire, sophisticated Don. A total contrast to Malmal More and any person Nakku has ever known. Notice that he wore a suit (forget the hospital scenes where he wore patient's white kurta pyjama) when he came home, fetched his sisters from the temple, etc. But when he got back to business, he turned up in that black outfit (on other days, variations in Brown and Charcoal grey)
Dutta needs to look like a 'Bhau' so as long as he is in his Ilaaka, he will continue to wear that stuff. And when he will go informal, he will appear in Kurta Pyjama.
They won't make him wear jeans and plaids like he used to when he was a mechanic, that will be too much of a reversal. But we can only hope that they won't make him do that. It would be too unreal. He has come too far in life to go back to jeans, t-shirt and and plaid shirts.
Another thing, did you guys notice that Nakku may be wearing the same paisley-floral print Salwar suit she wore when she entered Patil Nivas? It is in that same dress that she had her first temptation to wash off her colour and reveal herself. Babi intervened.
If you go back to view the episodes from 5th to 9th February, you will know what I am referring to.
That's when she began dreaming of Dutta praising her about her good heart, how he can read it in her eyes, about the food she brought him. That's also when Supriya makes her entry. And that's when Nakku, for the first time, is conscious about the way she looks.
She was, untill that day, dreaming of Sahib liking her for her good heart and her efficient housekeeping. But that day, when she saw Sahib looking at Supriya (his eyes only for her), overheard two domestic helps raving about Sups looks and name, she must have felt so heartbroken. Then to top it all, Pari, Leela's daughter closes her eyes at the very sight of Nakku.
That's when Nakku becomes so acutely aware of the way she looks, and despairs. She removes her colour and dreams of Dutta saying: "Kahan chupa ke rakha tha yeh chaand sa chehra..." then we have that Laagi Tujhse Lagan song dream sequence.
Nakku dreams again, Dutta carrying her, like he did the unconscious Supriya, and looking at her beautiful face in wonderment. Again, when they are shopping for a gift for Supriya, and he buys her an Odhani, she dreams of him raving about her being the most beautiful girl in the whole world. And again, during the Sagai song-and-dance "Jaane Kya Baat hai". She even threw caution to the winds and danced with her mother in the garden, begging her mother to let her live that moment, be herself.
She always yearned to show him what she looks like. But her mother intervened each time, and he was already engaged to be married to someone else.
Maybe it is a deliberate move on the part of CVs to show her in that dress again? This time, as they are about to part, she is as heartbroken as she was on that day (8th Feb episode) when she heard Dutta was to marry Supriya.

I really hope they dont bring a major change in Dutta's wardrobe after he falls for Naku. That would take away from his character. In fact I dont want to see any major changes unless there is a major change in Dutta's circumstances ie if he completely comes out his profession.
But I do want to see some variety in his dressing that would keep in sync with his profession but also keep us hyperventilating. What better than the jeans, shirt and blazer all casually thrown in together look of the first few days that got us hooked to him in the first place.

I do hope they dont show him going back to his pre-Dutta bhau look irrespective of what happens in the show. That look was for the teenaged Dutta. However much Dutta's circumstances and mood changes he will never be a teen again.

Yes...Naku has been shown several times tempted to reveal her look. She was most tempted when she heard about his engagement and that he couldnt take his eyes off the lovely Supriya.
She is tempted now again when she on the verge of losing him forever. I guess both the times she was on the verge of losing him and she was desperate to do something to stop that from happening.
And thats what I like the best about Naku. She is shown soft spoken and idealistic...but she behaves human too. unlike the ideal women on tv who are full of values to the point of being boring and irritating. and she ends up making her own and her lover's life hell. of naku's decisons so far its only her decision to hide supriya's affair from dutta that proved to be a bad decision. but then that decision finally got her married to him. so i dont think it was such a bad idea afterall.
