Chapter 28

Nargis disconnects and puts the phone away and thinks what to do? Calling Vicky may not be productive. She thinks let me just make some samosas, Punjabi family hai, I am sure samosa is something they eat. Oh well, she got to work. Got peas and potatoes out on the kitchen counter put the potatoes and peas for boiling. She mixed and kneaded white flour into a nice firm dough for the cover with some water and oil mixed in it. Once the boiling was done, she peeled the potatoes and mashed them, mixed the peas in it, added green chillies ( she had chopped chillies and ginger while boiling was happening) and added masala ' salt, garam masala, ginger, some cashew, red chillie powder, raisins and mixed the stuffing to have masala blend in evenly.

She then made small circular covers of the dough, cut them in half and made a cone to stuff the masala and seal them with a paste of maida and water. She had put oil to heat in frying pan and started frying once she finished making about 30 samosas. It was almost eleven and she was half way through frying and the door bell sounded. Oh shit! She muttered and went to open the door, putting the fire on sim.

She opened the door and said turning back, come in! the gas is on! What! What are you doing? Hmm something smells good, holding Nargis by the shoulder and nuzzling her neck. She says, uh! Not me..its the samosas'shoving him with her elbow. Let me go, my samosas will burn. Vicky then walks in behind a running Nargis to find a mini tornado had hit the kitchen. Nargis had been busy, cooking. He asked why are you cooking? We are going home for lunch. Nargis said, oh I thought I should take something and I have no idea what Daadima would like, and considering the time frame, I cooked samosa. Is that fine?

Vicky what? You made samosa? Darling your just kinda made her day, dadaji loved samosas. She used to make them for him every Sunday as breakfast. He had to have samosas. Wow, you are a genius babes. How did you know? Nargis frowned, know? I just took a guess! Abs is making Gajjar ka halwa so I thought I should make some namkeen. Hope daadima is not into the calorie counting affair.

Vicky said oh no no! she is the wholesome daadima who is punajaban to the core, big lassi, te aaloo de parathe, makke di roti de sarsson da saag, this is what dadaji's menu would be. Punjabi ke ghar angreji khana is not done. We grew up eating Punjabi food at home. Initially when we went to college, Daadima used to give missi roti with us, we used to freeze it and then she would send parcel ever so often.

Vicky then came back to present and said abhi tumhein tayyar bhi hona hai, aur ye complete nahi hue. Do this you go get changed, I will finish up here. He then took up apron and started working around. He removed his jacket and rolled up his sleeves and with apron he looked absolutely adorably homely. Nargis gave him a quick peck on the cheek as a thank you and rushed into the shower. She washed her hair, wore a pink and white anarkali that had beaded neckline and hemline with vertical beads lining the anarkali folds, it was elegant and chic and Nargis looked even taller than her 5'9" in the dress, she topped it with pearl necklace and studs, applied a pink eyeshadow that brought out the green of her eyes even more, twisted her hair put in a knot with white diamante holding her hair in place. She applied a light pink lip gloss and wore white sandals with small heel to complete the picture, she had a white potli bag to go with the outfit. Her wrists were adorned with 2 pearl string bracelet on oneand watch on the other.

She entered the kitchen to find the samosas done, the kitchen cleared and every used vessel in the basin for wash, the masala tins all in its shelves, and the samosas were packed in a plastic container. Nargis gaped. She could not believe Vicky was domesticated to have managed this feat. She instinctively just went up to hug him, forgetting about posing to show her transformation. Vicky had heard her gasp of surprise and had turned and showed off his handy work with a voila sign and had held Nargis' shoulders when she came to hug him. NO no no! don't spoil the dress, lipstick whatever, let me look at you and he surveyed her from top to bottom. He was very happy with the transformation of nargis into a tradition Indian woman and said, if I had seen you like this in paris, I would have not have wasted a minute to swoop you off, and I want to do that right now, but, daadima ko lateness pasand nahi so we are well in time, shall we go?

They took the samosa and started for Vicky's home. Nargis had lots of trepidation but had felt good with the vote of confidence from Vicky.
