Sups had entered his life, when he met Nakku. I mean the proposal had already been made. We only saw her entry after Nakku's entry into their home. Remember the Puran Poli scene :-)
So, he had Sups on his mind already. When you already have someone in your mind for a permanent relationship, you don't usually let your mind get diverted. Any other possibility that appears, you tend to look at it as "dosti". So, since Sups was already there, for Dutta, Nakku could only be "sabse achhi dost".
If Sups were not there, we would have seen Dutta's curiosity and intrigue regarding Nakku turn into something stronger.
Dutta does not realise, but it is important to him, what Nakku thinks of him. Otherwise he would not have releaved his Dark Secret of why he turned in Bhau.
