If you haven't had a chance to read Stephenie Meyer's "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella" but you want to learn more about Bree Tanner -- the short-lived but still very important "Eclipse" character-before the movie hits theaters on June 30, then you must check out this featurette from Summit that introduces the newborn vampire.
Bree Tanner is played by Jodelle Ferland, who's no stranger to the supernatural film scene -- you may recognize her as the little girl in the 2006 horror flick "Silent Hill." The 15-year-old actress has even received Meyer's stamp approval: "It's going to be great to see [Jodelle] as the character. She brings such a vulnerability, and she really understands the backstory for Bree that's not actually in 'Eclipse.' She gets the vulnerability." The author even went as far as to give Ferland the 192-page novella to read during filming, long before the public even realized Meyer was releasing it.
Ferland describes Bree as "part of the army of newborn vampires and she's on the bad side, but she doesn't want to be. She's forced to be and doesn't understand it, but is going along with it." So like most bloodsuckers in the "Twilight" world, Bree straddles the line between good and evil. "It's sad because even though she's on the bad side, she's a victim. She wants to be good, but no one gives her a chance," Ferland explains.
Twi-Hards are all too familiar with how Bree's story ends (let's just say it ain't pretty), but it'll be interesting to see which parts of the novella director David Slade and writer Melissa Rosenberg decided to include in the saga's third film.
