Hmmm, interesting question.

You see, the soaps are mostly for older people who are retired and have not much to do. One of their past times is watching TV. (With all due respect)I have noticed that unlike elders in India, old people abroad spend their past time going to the gym, walking, and basically staying active, instead of spending most of their time in from to the TV. Therefore, the startegy doesn't work very well in the foreign countries. Even if they do make soaps, they don't have the negative aspects except maybe relationship problems, which are understandable and relatable(not sure if that's a word😆) to the audience. However, how many people actually backbite in reality? In fact, I believe that these silly soaps have taught the Indian audience such traits. Anyways, as the elders watch TV,many of the family members come along and get absorbed into the show. The creatives have already spun a web and all the viewers need to do is get into it. So, many people get trapped into this web and soon reach the stage of denial, where they refuse to accept that the show they watch is a waste of their precious time.

I agree. But there are also people who are not old nor live with elderly people that watch these serials. My parents and i (not much anymore for me) watch serials and we dont live with elderly family members. Also, my parents both work and i spend most of my day in school so we're not people who do nothing all day. I think in our case we start watching shows when they first start and we get hooked. I stop watching shows after a while cause they get boring but i tend to keep on touch with whats going on (through IF). When the show gets interesting again, i start watching again.

Thankfully we dont take these shows seriously...and my dad is always that these shows probably ruined many families (giving bad ideas to audiences).
