New Professions in Bollywood
Gone are the days when the men used to work in offices and the women used to be housewives with children. This is the age of refreshing new, even bold and questionable professions of protagonists in movies. Take a look.

Ayesha Takia in Paathshala

The cute and bubbly actress played the in-house nutritionist of a residential school in the film. It was her job to monitor the food that was available in the canteen and she banned soft drinks and fried food. She was also in-charge of the extra-curricular activities of the students.

Sonam Kapoor in I Hate Luv Storys

The pretty and spunky girl plays a production designer in the film. This means she designs and decorates sets and locations for a movie. It is a highly creative and taxing job that requires special talent and interest and definitely a first for any Hindi film heroine. Way to go, Sonam!

Deepika Padukone in Love Aaj Kal

She played a restoration artist in the film, something we'd never heard of before this! Her character Meera shifts base to India to restore and preserve heritage properties and UNESCO sites around the country.

Deepika Padukone in Bachna Ae Haseeno

The gorgeous girl played a taxi driver in the film. Her character was fun, no-nonsense and quite a multi-tasker: she studied MBA, played cashier at the supermarket and drove taxies by night in Sydney, Australia. What a tough girl!

Kareena Kapoor in Kurbaan

You've had female protagonists play teacher to pre-primary children but Kareena Kapoor plays a US returned psychology professor who teaches college students (at New Delhi University). With professors like her, concentrating would be so darn difficult!

Shahid Kapoor in Kaminey

He is part of the new wave of grey characters in Bollywood. Charlie is charming, wicked and hot. He is a small-time gambler who wants to make it big at the Mahalaxmi Race Course with his affluent best buddy, Mikhail. He is unapologetic about his choices. He doesn't want to turn over a new leaf. He dreams of becoming a sought-after bookie and this dream comes true at the end of the movie.

Emraan Hashmi in Jannat

He is an ordinary gambler who has a special gift: he can predict the course of matches. So he becomes a successful bookie and is thereafter recruited by the Mafia to fix matches. He is the first prominent match fixer in a Bollywood movie.
