Priyadarshan's much-awaited film, MALAMAAL WEEKLY, will be the Holi attraction this year at the box-office. Exhibitors in the trade are counting on the March 15 release of the film to keep the cash registers jingling amidst the exam fever that is likely to keep the family audiences away from the theatres.
According to Sanjay Dalia, General Manager, Operations, Cineline, traders are counting on the film to revive the box-office excitement that was last visible in RANG DE BASANTI. "It may not be as big a film but Priyadarshan's penchant for comedy is fairly well-known. He is a master of comedies and his last comedy, GARAM MASALA, was a huge hit at the box-office, though his effort at getting back to serious film-making backfired in KYON KI," Dalia reveals, adding that Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav's comic capers will be something to watch out for in the film.
Incidentally, Priyadarshan's comedy formula in the film is a departure from his last film, GARAM MASALA. The film has a realistic setting and from what Priyadarshan had last said, there is a subtle humor in the film, which is far apart from the buffoonery that the audiences are used to seeing in comedy films. "I think the Indian audiences have matured to a great extent to understand humor in its true essence," the director had recently revealed.
