One is a pretty lass from Uttar Pradesh; other is a stocky stud from Patna. She made a name for herself as the doting and sobbing bahu of Banoo Main Teri Dulhann fame. He's became a gay icon as Roseish of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai fame. (Mind you, Roseish was no gay but it's just his way of talking that appeared girlish).

Buzz up!
Based on their past, the duo have nothing in common. Yet they find themselves shooting under one roof. Divanyka Tripathy and Rajesh Kumar are Mrs.and Mr. Sharma Allahabadwale. It's Diyanka's maiden comedy show. Despite their indifferent personalities, there's one common thing between the two.

It's the troublesome back that binds them together. It's well known that Divyanka has been suffering from back problem from the time of her Dulhann days. Some six months back, Kumar had pulled a muscle in his back too. Back then, he was advised strict bed rest. Having recovered, Kumar took to shooting for the new show.

When told about their common problem, Kumar sighed, "I didn't know that Divyanka too had a troublesome back. Perhaps, the next time when you don't like an episode, you can safely assume that both of us had a painful back on that day."

Apparently, the problem resurfaced for Kumar at Mrs. and Mr. Sharma Allahabadwale's telecast party on 17 May. Unmindful of his woes, Kumar let loose every part of his body and danced in all delight. An hour later, Kumar was spotted grimacing in pain as he held his hand to his back. He took a break for a while, and returned to the dance floor only to leave again in pain. That was the end of his celebration.

When contacted he said, "The cervical problem has resurfaced in the last five days. Unfortunately, I couldn't hold myself at the party. In hindsight, I shouldn't have danced. I've called the physiotherapist to the sets today. Just had a massage, and feeling lot better. I'll have to take precaution for the next few days."

Divyanka happy with her typical Indian woman image
Indo-Asian News Service

Television actress Divyanka Tripathi, better known as Vidya of Banoo Main Teri Dulhan, says she doesn't want to grow out of the image of a typical Indian woman.

"I'm not looking for any image makeover. I'm happy with my image of 'typical Indian woman'. I don't believe in overdoing things," Tripathi told IANS in an interview.

The 25-year-old actress said Zee TV'S Cine Star Ki Khoj was a platform which helped her gain confidence whereas Doordarshan and Aakash Vani gave her due recognition as an actor.

"Being part of Cine Star Ki Khoj gave me confidence to stand in a crowd. This moulded me in becoming a bolder individual. But as far as recognition is concerned my career got a kick start when I worked in Telefilms for Doordarshan and Aakash Vani," she said.

The actress gives utmost importance to a perfect family and, when asked about her plans for settling down, she said: "I'm in no hurry to get married, at least for the next two years for sure. When I get married I want everything to be perfect and for that I need ample time."

Asked about her perfect groom, she replied sheepishly: "I want my 'would be' to be very supportive and understanding. I'm a very homely person and I would expect him to be the same. I don't want him to keep me away from my work. And most importantly I'm not looking out for a macho, Casanova kind of a guy for myself."

Divyanka also revealed the reason for being away from the screen after her daily soap Banoo Main Teri Dulhan.

"I took a long break to get myself out of the character that I played. I wanted to be fresh for other roles. I took a lot of time to come out of the shadow of my character. I've shed enough tears but now is the time to make my viewers smile," she said.

The actress is now playing the role of Mrs. Sharma in Mrs. & Mr. Sharma Allahabad wale which depicts the journey of a middle-class family instilled with small town values and beliefs with a comical touch.

The show features Rajesh Kumar who is better known as Roshesh of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai in the lead, along with Divyanka.

The actress said she was excited to step into comedy as she was exhausted of serious drama herself.

"This is the first time I have delved into comedy. I was very excited to portray the character of Mrs. Sharma. I have been given a very different look in the show and my onscreen chemistry with Rajesh is simply hilarious," she said.

"Shooting for serious drama gave me a headache but now I feel so fresh all the time. Doing comedy has made me spontaneous as an individual," she added.

The show started airing on Monday at 9.30 p.

Divyanka Tripathi aka Vidya of Banoo Mein Tumhari Dulhan who was missing in action for the past one year is back with Mr & Mrs Sharma Allahabadwale on SAB TV.

Divyanka plays Mrs Rashmi Sharma in the sitcom. The story is about her family comprising of husband and son Dabbu who comes to Mumbai [ Images ] from Allahabad and soon get entangled in the day-to-day problems faced by Mumbaites.

Divyanka Tripathi tells Rajul Hegde what to expect. Excerpts:

You were missing from the scene for quite a while. What made you take up this show?

I had about four to five offers in hand at the time this show came along. But they all were very similar to my character in Banoo Main Teri Dulhan. The producers of Mr & Mrs Sharma Allahabadwale convinced me to do this show. I am nervous and very excited because this is the first time that I am doing a comedy.

How did you prepare for the role?

I have worked very hard on my body language and the language. Mrs Sharma is naive, funny and very simplistic woman. I drew from the women I find in my house to play her. I would practice by making faces in front of the mirror. But now I am completely into it. I am just waiting for viewers' reaction.

Are you naive like Mrs Sharma in real life too?

Yes, completely. I have never cracked jokes in my life. In fact, I'm the butt of all jokes. Sometimes I don't get a joke while everyone is laughing. But that doesn't mean I am not intellectually sound [smiles].

Your co-star Rajesh Kumar is a veteran when it comes to comedy. Is it difficult getting in tune with him?

Actually I have worked hard because I didn't want him to feel uncomfortable. It was stressful process for me to get the right timing. He is very supportive and very good in comedy while I am good in romance. So we help each other out because in our show there is comedy and romance [chuckles].

Like you're the character you play, you too are from small town. Does Mumbai still shock you?

I really can't say that because I hardly know people outside my work circle. I have hardly explored the city. It's only recently when I had guests over, that I finally saw some parts of the city. I had to take them on a Mumbai darshan.

Why haven't we seen you in any reality shows?

I can't relate to them. You have to be able to generate enough masala around you to be able to entertain in a reality show. And I don't have it in me. I am a simple person and cannot be something which I am not. So if I take part in a reality show, I would come across as the most unreal person.

Are you planning to do any films?

I would love to do films but I can't expect the makers to give me character roles. They will expect me to be glamorous and I can't do that. I will continue playing characters on TV till the time someone is confident enough to have faith in my talent.

The face of television soaps has changed as now there is no kitchen politics, no rona-dhona as now the shows are based on social issues so with this, there is a change in our TV Jodi's as well, as now there are no repetition of the same actors as the makers are creating new Jodi's. But not all of them look compatible on-screen, so we take a look at some odd pairs of television.

DivyankaTripathi and Rajesh Kumar of Mr and Mrs.Sharma Allahabadwale

She played an obedient and sober character of Vidya in Zee TV's Banno Main Teri Dulhann and she was paired with Sharad Malhotra and this Jodi was loved by audiences as their on-screen love got converted into off-screen love and they got a huge fan following in India and abroad but now she is back on TV with a new comedy show and this time she is Mrs. Sharma paired opposite yet another comic actor, Rajesh Kumar. It will be hard to see Divyanka in a comedy show as we all know that Rajesh Kumar is very good with comedy, so now its her challenge to get into this pairing as well in comedy . Everyone loved his comedy timing with Sucheta Trivedi in Baa Bahu aur Baby and let's hope both will be able to create a comedy in this new show.

Never count your chickens till they are hatched. However, actor-turned-producer Ujjwal Rana could be pardoned for celebrating even though his maiden show 'Mrs. and Mr. Sharma Allahabad Wale' is just one episode old.

Last night, Rana threw a party to celebrate the launch of his show. Apart from the producer, the principle attraction was of course Divyanka Tripathy, who marked her return to TV post 'Banoo Main Teri Dulhann'. Not to be left behind was protagonist Rajesh Kumar, who plays Mr. Sharma. Divyanka plays his wife, Rashmi Sharma.

Most members of the cast came in early. Divyanka arrived just in time to catch the telecast. The team watched the first episode with curious eyes. The cake cutting ceremony was conducted after the telecast and soon the champagne began to flow.

Divyanka and Rajesh though had to wait, as they obliged the scribes. The pretty Tripathy was dressed in a traditional salwar kameez looking as dazzling as ever. Kumar bore a casual look wearing a jeans and T-shirt.

Once the two protagonists finished with their media commitments, Rana dragged his reluctant actors to the dance floor. On by one all took to the dance floor. Tripathy wasn€™t all too keen to dance but she didn€™t disappoint her producer or the cameramen. The girl showed brief glimpse of her freestyle Bollywood dancing. After all, the DJ played purely Bollywood music. Rajesh, though, let himself loose and danced in a way only he could. Though most of them weren€™t pretty, but they enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

The one who charmed all was, surprisingly, seasoned actor Atul Srivastav, who plays the landlord in the show. The old man shook every bone in his body. The onlookers couldn€™t help but wonder is it really him who is dancing. However, it was Kumar€™s on-screen son Dabbu who put the adults to shame.

Among those that graced the occasion were Baba Sehgal, Vrajesh Hirjee, Abhishek Awasthi, and Rajesh Balwani, who has gained more than few pounds. As always, SAB Business Head, Anooj Kapoor, was there to offer his blessings.

While Divyanka left early, the party continued well past mid-night.

Mrs. and Mr. Sharma Allahabadwale got going from 17 May. The cast and crew assembled together to celebrate the first telecast at Mumbai's BJN Banquets.

One was surprised to see the presence of actors Baba Sehgal and Abhishek Avasthi, who were entertaining SAB viewers at the same slot just a week ago with their show Jugni Chali Jalandhar. The struggling DJ's show had to make way for Mrs. and Mr. Allahabadwale.

It's never a nice feeling to see your show come to an end. 'Jugni', Muskaan Mehani, claimed to have cried for six hours. It must have been emotional day for other actors too. That's why it was all the more surprising to see Sehgal and Avasthi.

Sehgal arrived little late, and appeared to be in real hurry to leave. He was spotted gulping down a solitary drink. Once the cake was cut, Sehgal bid good bye to SAB programming head Saeed Akhtar and few individuals (presumably channel officials). It was then that Sehgal said, "Chalo, ab iski (Mrs. and Mrs.Sharma Allahabadwale) TRP dekhte hai.. (We'll watch out for the TRP of this show)." Akhtar broke into laughter. He refused to let Sehgal go, and asked him to take another drink. The actor couldn't say no. However, he fled the scene soon.

Nice pun Baba, but take a chill pill. Jugni Chali Jalandhar had its run. A show lasting two years in these times is a pretty good achievement. Besides, it's nothing less than a miracle for a Jugni Chali Jalandhar to have lasted that long. Now it's time for the Allahabadi couple to make merry.

Not again, please!
Mrs and Mr Sharma Allahabadwale
Time:
9.30 pm
Cast: Divyanka Tripathi and Rajesh Kumar

Wish the ratings could diminish some more! This one takes the wedding cake and even the bakery in being a howlarious laugh riot. It barely makes you laugh to begin with. It's unbelievable, the kind of simpletons there are, in the Sharma clan.
They pay four times the money to coolies at railway stations, they try to act smart in the most ridiculous ways and they have a disgusting home-mate who refuses to leave their rented house because she doesn't have a place to go to. Every one hams to death.

It's irritating to sit through the episodes. You're tempted to switch the channel.

It's a pleasure to see Divyanka Tripathi back on a show though. Ditto Rajesh Kumar. But the least one expected was a show like this to mark their return. They're hugely wasted in their respective characters. Sorry, no more words to waste here!

What we like
It's nice to see Divyanka Tripathi and Rajesh Kumar back on the small screen.

and don't like
The story is very boring.
The treatment of the show is even worse.
Everyone is made to ham.
You can't believe that someone coming from UP can be such a simpleton. There's a difference between being wide-eyed and being unnecessarily silly
