There are singers and there are gifted singers.
Now when I am listening to this superb composition, it reinforces the fact that in today's times, shreya is truly an angel.
Why? Of course, her USP of melody is reinforced not only here, but taken to new highs in the way she blends her classical based voice with the score that is , influenced by western classical tunes. And after you listen to her, you start thinking-is she really that young!

This song brings out the best in shreya's voice, melodious, with a hint of adaiyagi with a touch of classical vocals mixed with a hint of youthfulness, truly she is one of a kind, a complete all round singer.

She is today's miss perfectionist!

I've only heard this song once or twice. So I went back and re listened it again and again to come up with a final evaluation. Another beautiful piece by Shreya. But I don't think its her best. I felt she was lacking in quite a few places. Knowing that Shreya has sung many fabulous songs, I just felt this one wasn't doing much justice to her voice. Her rendition was beautiful. The track is a beautiful track. She def had good voice modulation in the song. I felt she went a bit too soft in certain places making it a bit hard to listen to voice. She really had the feel in the song and playing around with some words very well. Some places were very strong and she had a good emphasis in those places. She knew when to play around with her voice and when to sing straight. She really had good grasp of the composition. Her voice was sweet and melodious just like in any other song. But I just really saw a lot lacking in this song from her. I felt a lot of pauses in the song which isn't necessarily Shreya's fault as she is just singing as per what the composition requires. She sung with a sweetness in her voice but maybe because of the lack of composition or lyrics she fell a bit weak in my opinion compared to other songs that she has sung. After listening to this song multiple times I have come up with a final evalutation...

Final rating: 6.5 but because I think she did a good job with what she was given, I won't round down but up for the effort she put into the song! 7 will be the final score!

Aah M M Kreem, when you have his name on the composer's credit, you know that the song will not be run-of-the-mill filmi and this song is a great example.

I'm loving the minimalist/acoustic feel that we have in both Alisha and Shreya's songs - great choices, thanks to whoever recommended them to risingbove!

Shreya has done a great job here. She's done everything that Alisha did in Tinka Tinka (to which I gave an 8/10) - soft throw, grasp of sur, holding notes, slightly choral high pitches and great feel. But here Shreya has also performed some harkats very deftly. Although she has one of the best/sweetest voice qualities of any singer, what puts Shreya in the A-league is her awesome control, which allows her voice to flow into some beautiful modulations which she drops here and there.

Great work! She should have got the Filmfare for this and not Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai, IMHO, but at least she got it! The competition IS hotting up now, and Shreya has earned her first 9/10 from me!

Once again, mind blowing singing by Shreya Ghosal! Great song too.

Excellent voice quality, fantastic feel, and great ability displayed throughout the song. And to think she was only what, 19 years old when singing this? 👏

The main sequence,

Jahan Meetha Nasha Hai Taaron Ke Chaaon Mein
Chalo Tumko Lekar Chale Hum Un Fizao Mein

was just just amazingly done. Perfect. The high pitches were perfect, the feel was excellent, and the voice quality was obviously first class. 10/10 on the main sequence without a doubt.

And then her post-main sequence,
Deti Sarsarati In Hawaon Ke Sang Aao Paas Mere Aana
Sapno Ka Safar Hai Mere Dil Ka Yeh Bhawar Hai Is Mein Doob Jana
Zarasa Tanha Chupata Ab Mil Gaya

was also well done. I think she added a little classical feel to it when she sang some of these lines. Not that the lyrics or the song was classical, but she used her classical type of singing to sing some of these lines, for example "meaeera aannaaa" and then "dhoooob jaaannaa" which she does great. So being classically trained I think her helped her in these sequences. And then a good higher pitch ending.
So wonderfully done there as well.

So now it comes down to, 9 or 10? Well, how difficult it was surely plays a part. Because her voice quality once again was top class, and the expression feel was there ,and she displayed a lot of talent. I think this song overall requires the singer to show a lot of expression and feel, and then on top of that there were some more difficult portions where the singer had to go higher, and then some other portions which she just added to make it more difficult (see classical parts). Overall, this was flawless, best voice quality, difficult, great expressions, and wonderfully executed!

My first 10

Rating: 10/10

I don't expect the audience to appreciate it as much. Since the song wasn't as big of a hit as her other 2, nonetheless, it was still a hit. Also, she received an award for Jaadu Hai Naasha Hai from this film, it could've gone either way really. The only difference was Jaadu Hai Naasha Hai was a bigger hit. So they gave it to her performance there.

Can you explain where exactly was she "lacking"? As you said, it's a quite a few places? 😆
Tell me some of those places.

And please tell me where she was lacking not the song. Keep that in mind.

Great evaluation, ssk! I thought her classical training really showed here - some of the lyrics you pointed out were literally sung as taans.

And I agree, the audience might not warm to this song because it wasn't much of a hit, but I think Shreya has enough fans out there to survive that! Plus, people will get to hear a great song, so we all win...

@CPR I would have protested you giving Shreya's singing the same marks as Alisha (in fact you wanted to give Shreya a 6.5 and Alisha 7) but I'm sure Shreya's gonna sail through this round so no probs!

Well, I don't think it's so much that she is giving the same marks as Alisha. Because Alisha also deserves high marks. It's more the fact BOTH Alisha and Shreya are in the 7s for CPR this round. 😆
