And taking a leaf out of India's political campaigning pattern, Vaz has roped in Bollywood celebs like Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty to help promote him. While Shilpa is currently stuck in India due to her dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha as well as her business ventures like her spa, hubby Raj Kundra made up for her absence on the first day of campaigning.
Sanjay accompanied Kundra and Keith Vaz to the Belgrave area in the city, and his huge fan following was quite apparent. We hear thousands of people turned out to see the Bollywood superstar.
"I hope the 'Munnabhai effect' will help my dear friend Keith Vaz. I have stopped politics in India - this bit can be tweaked a little, but wanted to show my support to Keith and people of Indian origin here," said Dutt.
MP Keith Vaz's association with Bollywood stars is nothing new. Dubbed as 'Bollywood Central' by his colleagues in the Parliament, his office wall is decorated with photographs of him with Shilpa, whom he had supported during the racism row on Celebrity Big Brother; Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif . Shilpa and Bachchan have been to Leicester more than once, and for the last election, Dalip Tahil campaigned for Vaz.
