The story is set in the village of Bhira. Conservative and traditional, it has a small but prominent temple of the goddess of the village -Bhirai devi.
Though the Devadasi tradition is seemingly history, the shadows of the past still haunt this village who still hold a very narrow outlook towards life and whose thoughts are manipulated and influenced by the religious leaders like Bappaji.
