Chapter 4: A Hindi Film Moment
Prem grabbed his sister's heavy black suitcase off the luggage carousel. He had identified it by the colors of the knitted luggage tag; orange, white, and green. "Geez," he huffed, "I'm surprised this thing made it back in one piece."
Veera pouted, "Be careful with that. It has all my clothes in there."
With a naughty twinkle in his eyes, Preet teased, "You're clothes? More like half the country's clothes. We could open up a road side market right now. Think of all the money we could make."
"Veera's Clothing Boutique," Prem chimed in. "Made from the finest materials from around the world."
"Not you too?" Veera whined.
"Come come, now children...Kiran is probably outside waiting for us," Kulraj pushed. They followed her outside with their luggage charts in tow searching for their brother-in-law. Preet and Prem however, continued to tease Veera about her expensive taste in clothes and her future fashion line.
Veera squealed in frustration, "That's it I'm not talking to either of you ever again!"
"That's good cause we don't want to hear you complain about our fashion styles and how we can't dress," Preet egged on.
"Yeah, and what's wrong with the color red? I like red," Prem replied hurtfully, "And another thing...I don't understand this...mauve is the new 'purple'...since when did the color purple disappear? And what the heck is mauve...isn't it purple?"
Preet nodded in agreement, "Yea yea, you said it right."
Veera with agitation in her voice explained, "Mauve, my dear stupid brothers...is a pale violet."
"So why don't they call it pale violet?" Preet asked.
Veera clinched her fists and then calmly took a deep breath, "I'm not speaking to either of you," and turned her attention towards Kulraj who was searching the road for her husband.
Prem and Preet high-fived each other in congratulatory triumphant. They both smiled as they enjoyed the breeze blowing through the pickup terminal. Then suddenly there was large gush of wind that pushed through rattling the dirt and debris around their feet. Prem looked up and saw a flying yellow dupatta and before he knew it; his face was covered.
"OMG!" Preet yelled in comic hysteria, "Hindi Film Moment!" he continued to dance around informing his sisters, "Look it's a Hinid Film Moment...Prem Bhaiya had a Hindi Film Moment!" Kulraj and Veera laughed at Prem's state his face completely covered by the yellow dupatta looking ridiculous.
"It seems much more romantic in the movies than in real life," Veera giggled.
Kulraj laughed, "I know...and the dupatta is twice the length than it should be...and only one side flies up to hit the hero's face."
"Guess that means Bhaiya's found Bhabhi," Preet continued. Prem pulled the dupatta off his face and stared at it. Preet inched closer to his brother grinning widely, "Ah, I wonder what Bhabhi looks like...her face...her name...a hot chick or...maybe someone like AUNTIE…" Preet exploded in laughter at his last word and then started to sing, "chand mera dil...chandini ho tum...chand se hai door...chandini kahan..."
Veera held her stomach laughing, "Hehehe...knowing his luck he would get an Auntie!"
Just then a shrilled aged voice shouted from across the way, "Beta!" Prem's face twitched in disbelief while Preet, Veera, and Kulraj laughed hysterically. Prem tossed the dupatta to Preet who quickly tossed it back, "No way, it's yours not mine."
"What am I suppose to do with it?" Prem nervously replied.
"Give it back to its owner, the Auntie," Preet explained.
"Oh come on, what's there to be afraid of? She's just an Auntie," Kulraj teased.
Prem sighed and then nodded trying to gather strength, "Nothing to be afraid of...just an Auntie..." He started walking towards where he thought he heard the voice had come from when he suddenly stopped in his tracks. "You?" he asked unsure if his eyes were fooling him.
Preet wondered who Prem was talking to and moved passed his brother's shoulder to get a better look. "Youuu?" Preet repeated in surprised.
Starring at her dupatta in Prem's hand she said in awe, "You?" and then noticing Preet her eyes widened, "You too?"
"Didi!" panted Meher, "Did you find your dup--" then seeing the familiar faces of Preet and Prem she slipped out with a "you?" as well.
Veera and Kulraj wondered what the chorus of yous were about and moved closer for a better look. "You?" they both said.
Heer and Meher just stood there in disbelief that they had run into the brothers again and especially in such circumstances. Prem mechanically handed Heer's dupatta over; his eyes still registering the figure in front of them. Just then a black Cadillac drove up; the driver rolled down his widow and shouted, "Ms. Maan?" Heer and Meher simultaneously turned their heads. Heer apologized, "I'm sorry, our rides here. We have to go." Prem robotically nodded his head and without a word watched her turn away. Preet jumped forward and with his thumb out and his pinky down twisting his hand up to his ear, "905-222-2121." Meher nodded her head in understanding as she climbed into the car.
A few seconds after they left Kiran pulled in alongside the curb. Everything was momentarily forgotten as they greeted each other and packed the suitcases into the back of the Honda Odyssey. The drove home was filled with cheers and laughter as they told their stories to Kiran about their trip to India.

Harman waited impatiently in the living room wondering when his family would be home. He jumped when he heard the front door open and ran to give a huge bear hug to his older brother Prem.
"Harman!" Preet yelled with enthusiasm, "You lucky dog, got to stay here all by yourself."
"What are you talking about? I had to study and take the LSAT," Harman replied. "And I wasn't alone Kiran was here...granted he spent most of his times in meetings..."
"How do you think you did?" Kulraj asked in a concern voice.
Harman waved his hand, "I don't want to even think about. So how was the trip to India?"
"You didn't miss much," Preet replied.
"Wait, where's Mom and Dad?" he asked confusedly.
"They decided at the last minute to stay two more weeks...something about finding some old friends of theirs," Veera informed. "I'm so tired. I just want to take a nice hot shower and go to bed."
"Wait, not until we find out who those mysterious women were at the airport," Kulraj ordered.
"Mysterious women?" Harman repeated. Then snickering, "Did Preet and Prem get into some kind of trouble?"
"I don't know what they did but Preet gave them his number," Veera continued.
"You gave them your number?" Kiran asked as he closed the front door. "This, I gotta hear."
Prem and Preet where soon bombarded with a whole range of questions about who they were and how they met, which the brothers calmly answered. "Well in that case, we have to invite them over for dinner sometime," Kulraj instructed. She picked up Rishi and playfully pinched his cheeks, "Plus, when this one wandered away...Heer found him and brought him back." Rishi clapped excitedly and giggled, "Hee-w...Hee-w..."
"Well, now that the mysterious is over," Veera replied. "I'm off to bed. Goodnight everyone!"
"Wait," Preet said blocking his sister's path.
With a perturbed face, "Preet, what do you want now?" He smiled and pulled a bag from his backpack. Veera opened the bag to find chocolates. She smiled lovingly at him, "I thought you forgot."
"How could I forget? You're my sister," Preet replied.
"I know how much you like chocolates..." Vera said.
"So you'll give it back?" Preet interrupted with a hopeful voice.
She pushed him aside and said, "Yea, right…fat chance of that happening," and then ran up the stairs before her brother could catch her.

Meher and Heer thanked the driver and waved goodbye as the car pulled out of the driving lot.
"Wow, Didi," Meher said as she turned back around. "You didn't tell me we would be living in a townhouse."
"I had no idea either," Heer replied. "Nihaal just told me he found a place for us and just gave me the address and keys."
"It's so cute," Meher said looking around her. The townhouse was designed in the bay-gable style. There were large bay windows that covered the left side in a slightly detached manner while on the right hand side a mini porch was built. The property had a small lawn and a one car driveway.

"Let's stop standing around and go in," Heer suggested. Meher eagerly nodded in approval. When Heer opened the door to the apartment they were shocked to see the place filled with balloons.
"Did we go to the wrong one?" Meher asked.
"I don't think so...," Heer replied, "theses are the keys to the house."
Meher suddenly grabbed her sister after catching a glimpse of someone or something hiding behind the sofa. "SURPRISE!" the person yelled as he jumped out of his hiding spot. Her eyes widen, "Nihaal?!" He smiled smugly as Meher jumped into his arms with Heer soon following after.
"Nihaal? Wh-what are you doing here," Heer asked, "What about work in New York? You said you had a really important meeting with a client..."
"I lied…" he laughed, "So I could come and surprise you. Did you really think I would miss the opportunity to see my sisters?" Then looking at Meher he raised his hand above her head, "Did you grow a few inches?"
Meher frowned jokingly as she slapped her brother's hand away, "Very funny."
He chuckled at her expression. "So how do you like my surprise?" he asked.
"You really out did yourself with the balloons," Heer replied as she moved one away from her face.
"Well, I'm sure the two of you are really tired. So go upstairs take a shower and I'll get dinner ready," Nihaal said shooing his sisters.
"You're cooking?" Heer laughed, "Since when did you learn how to cook?"
Nihaal grinned, "I didn't," and pulled something out from his pocket, "Takeout from Bamboo Wok..." Meher and Heer giggled and then raced upstairs to see the rest of the house.
