21. Getting To Know One Another

Kranti was at the door ready to open it. Raj's hand came from behind and kept the door shut. She kept her gaze down as she stood at an angle. She was looking at some point on the door but her thoughts were very far away. Her dupatta lay from one shoulder and across to the arm that was going to open the door. Her beautiful long neck was exposed. Her hand that was on the door panel was curled into a fist and was tightly closed. It was as if she was stifling the pain that was trying to break free. She had clammed up. Raj knew she would now withdraw and fortify herself. Her knuckles were making jagged points and he wondered if her nails would draw blood from her palm.

very nice as usual Pen ( like the fact that Kranti is continuing same dress in a day, not like films change clothes in every scene)...... waiting for the next one & sorry for the late reply......keep it up dear 👏 👏 👏

22. Pammi Lal's Watchful Eyes

Kranti cleared her throat and began to sing. She sang softly but tunefully. Raj marvelled at Nani. How easily she had passified Kranti! What attached these women to each other? Their similar fates or destiny? Raj folded his hands as he stood with crossed legs leaning against the wall. A smile played round his lips.
And when Pammi Lal opened the door to her mother's room, this was the scene she saw...

Pammi Lal opened the door to her mother's room and was about to speak, but the scene before her eyes, surprised her. It was almost midday and the sun was at its height. Yet this room was protected from the brightness by the soft beige curtains. She could see her mother lying on the bed and her son standing against the wall. But who was the girl sitting next to Bi-ji? She was singing to her and her hand was entwined with her mother's. Pammi decided to keep quiet and make her observations.
