I was talking to a few friends here on IF about a certain show and it's representation of "marriage" and Plato's theory on marriage and love came up in that discussion. I then realized that same theory can be very well be applicable here in our very own Mahi's life 😛,
So read on and do share your thoughts on this theory and whether it applies to Mahi or not!
Would love to know what all of you intelligent people think about this:

Plato's lesson on love and marriage
One day, Plato asked his teacher, "What is love? How can I find it?"
His teacher answered, "There is a vast wheat field in front. Walk forward without turning back, and pick only one stalk. If you find the most magnificent stalk, then you have found love."

Plato walked forward, and before long, he returned with empty hands, having picked nothing.
His teacher asked, "Why did you not pick any stalk?"
Plato answered, "Because I could only pick once, and yet I could not turn back. I did find the most magnificent stalk, but did not know if there were any better ones ahead, so I did not pick it. As I walked further, the stalks that I saw were not as good as the earlier one, so I did not pick any in the end. "

His teacher then said, "And that is love."

On another day, Plato asked his teacher, "What is marriage? How can I find it?"
His teacher answered, "There is a thriving forest in front. Walk forward without turning back, and chop down only one tree. If you find the tallest tree, then you have found marriage."

Plato walked forward, and before long, he returned with a tree. The tree was not thriving, and it was not tall either. It was only an ordinary tree.
His teacher asked, "Why did you chop down such an ordinary tree?"
Plato answered, "Because of my previous experience. I walked halfway through the forest, but returned with empty hands. This time, I saw this tree, and I felt that it was not bad, so I chopped it down and brought it back. I did not want to miss the opportunity."

His teacher then said, "And that is marriage."

Hmm.... never read that before but it's actually a very interesting take on love and marriage!

But then again, do we actually pick the best person to fall in love with? It just happens... It shouldn't really matter if the stalk is the most magnificent one or not. I know I'm taking it literally, it could have other meanings too.

As for marriage, let's just hope that Mahi gets married to the person she truly loves... and my hope is that she will truly fall in love with Shiv.

Hey Mahi,

Let's just hope that Mahi and Shiv end up together.
Regarding love, to an extent I do agree with Plato's theory because we want the most magnificent stalk as our love. I think a lot has to be alluded to the notion of "beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" I might find A "perfect" and worthy of a relationship and you might find "B" lovable.

In the case of marriage somehow people do settle, mostly because people grow up and realize there is no perfection and compromises are a must.

Now I am not sure if this will apply to Mahi Way or not, I mean she did fall in love with the most "magnificent stalk" in her eyes, I just hope that when and if she decides to marry Shiv it is out of love and not just settling!

^ I agree with you! Perfection really is subjective... Just like I think Shiv is perfect but Mahi always thought Ishan is perfect..

But I kind of disagree too... I guess it's just my own perception of love, but I don't think I ever want a perfect guy so to say.... In fact, the only way I would know I love him truly is when I accept him with his shortcomings/fears because I'm not perfect either and he has to accept me the way I am. It's true that two wrongs never make a right, but in this case I think two imperfects would make a perfect love story 😳 So I wouldn't really care if he's perfect or not just as long as he's caring, understanding, respectful, and loving... But Mahi Way's Mahi's criteria is that the guy is good looking, charismatic, 'sizzling' etc... I guess everyone has different thoughts related to love.

And 110% with you on Mahi-Shiv marriage. I would want her to truly be in love with Shiv before taking such a major step. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

BTW, love your avi! 😆

^Haha thank you, I am glad you like the avi!

I completely agree with your take on love :) love isn't findin a perfect person its about seein a imperfect person..perfectly! Here comes in the being grown up and mature, once you learn to embrace your partner for all their imperfections...I think you have grown as a person then.

And I think like you and believe in pious love but what I see around in real life is not so clear and pristine, compromises and complacency set in and the first thing that goes out the window after marriage is LOVE.

LOL sorry for sounding like a debbie downer but I prefer to see world through the glasses of Optimism mixed in with realism!

^You are absolutely right. From what I've seen so far in life, love is really not the basis of any marriage... almost always it's compromise and just the need to settle down.

I guess I do talk about things ideally... which unfortunately is barely ever true in real life.

But for MaHiv - We can hope that much, na? As real as it is, we can certainly see the idealistic take on marriage and love there 😉

Lol Mahi it doesn't hurt to be idealistic! Ideals always help!

Just saw the latest episode and I think the show is headed in the direction you'd like: Golgappas on the terrace, tickling schickling....more of Shiv in every episode....I see our forum Mahi aka Mystery getting very happy 😊
