Oscars Ponder Palestinian Nomination Question

By WENN| Wednesday, February 15, 2006

HOLLYWOOD - Academy Awards bosses are locked in a debate over how the origins of Best Foreign Language Film nominee Paradise Now should be described on Oscars night.
The film, about two friends from Nablus in the West Bank who volunteer to bomb Israeli civilians in Tel Aviv, is billed as being made in Palestine on the Oscars official website—but Jewish groups in the U.S. have been quick to point out no such country exists.

Academy Awards spokesperson John Pavlik insists he has not been contacted by any Israeli groups yet, but organizers are discussing an idea to switch Hany Abu-Assad's movie's origins to the "Palestinian Authority."
