Friends,

Just caught up with the deadly DID performances last weekend .....and well the Drama India Drama continues.

a) Nikitasha in the otherwise grumbleland

I have no say on why Nikitasha should be voted in or voted out, considering that I am neutral about her. But .....if anyone deserves the "Topi" (...ugg that sounds cheesy😆)....for grace and attitude, it should be Nikitasha.👏👏

whatever happens now, I will remember her as a very graceful and optimistic contestant in the usual bucket loads of sore and grumpy contestants that abound the reality shows.....and thats something.....considering very few people really stand out.

b) the curious case of Geeta Kapoor

Well........let me see......After Liberally choro oops!!!!....sorry.......after liberally getting inspired by many perfomances.....GK comes up with two wonders this week

i. Classical dances of India (5 for the price of one TRP .....all done in 3 minutes😲)

In this age of Twitter and two minute noodles....trust GK to give us 3 minuted 5 dance forms act!!!!!😲😲😲

Frankly....... if I were a classical dancer I would be offended. Considering there was no due weightage given to any dance form (which by the way is the cultural heritage of India) and given that as a lay person I had no clue why one style of dance was different from the others after the three minutes were over (apart from Kathak maybe).......

So..........if the whole idea of this stunt was to show off!!!.....oops.......sorry....... show case Indian classical knowledge...then I rather watch my local neighbourhood kids do their Arangetram😃 (they are far more sincere, they try their best to be original and hopefully true to the dance form).

Would love to hear from members here who dont know classical dance if anything that they saw made sense....And hopefully the members here who know classical dance were able to realise what was happening😳

ii Kanha and Kaliya

Ermmm........if any Dharmesh, Kishore and GK supporter wants to throw footwear at me after reading what is to follow........then I wear size 8.5 😊

But just what was that😲....

I think GK took the literal meaning of the words "Kaliya Mardan"😕........She made Dharmesh unrecognisable in the Black (Kaliya) avatar....so his expressions........were welll........in black....😆😆.............and Kishore killed me with his puffy interpretation of my beloved Kanha.

This was a pointless performance......and certainly not dance.....looked like an act one does in local schools during the annual day events.

And if any of you has seen a local school act you will know what I am saying....many of us would have done this as eager beaver primary kids.......the kids look the part and are not inferior in any way to what two supposedly skilled dancers did on DID.

Question??...I have a doubt.....GK means General Knowledge.......wonder how that applies to the GK we see every week😆

And OH.......

while we are at it.........I loved "Ala re ala Sachin" ...........not so much for the dance element....but for what Punit sincerely did👏👏👏.........and yes.......if you are in India......and remotely enjoy cricket........you would know what playing at age 36 and making 220 runs in a one day match means😳

And Oh....OH

God, agle janam mein ....please give me the agility and body frame of Shakti.........I almost started liking crawling reptiles after watching her move and slink her butt off!!!.. in the Avatar song.......Can't seem to get that move of hers outta my mind........😳

I liked the Classical act, but if you ask me about the concept, no clue!! I dont think Geeta followed a concept or a story in that act, though she said something about Krishna and Radha in the limelight video, I didnt see any Krishna or Radha in that act! But for the grace and execution of the girls, I gave them 10... And Geeta also made a mistake, by saying the prominent rasa of Mohiniyattam is Shringara, which is not true - it's devotion to God - pure faith... And the Mohiniyattam, Odissi and Kuchipudi parts were only for 2-3 seconds! It was mainly Bharatanatyam in the beginning and then went on to Manipuri - since Amrita is a trained Manipuri dancer... That was a smart move from Geeta's side, but since I like Classical dance and enjoyed their performance, I was khushi! 😳

About the Kalia Mardan act - Geeta never mentioned the dance form used for that act!! LOL... We had some discussions here regarding that!! Geeta said it's Kalia Mardan - which is supposed to be the concept!! But the steps were more Hip-hop!!! Maybe Geeta will name it Indian Hip-hop, the same way she made Marathi Hip-hop for D earlier, when it was Hip-hop for D and Bollywood for Binny (in Marathi costume) in that duet!! The end part missed the sync and so looked real bad... Say that to D fans and they will chop you!! LOL... Yes, Geeta played smart by hiding the faces in dark plus black paint on D's face, and so expressions were dark too!! But I think Remo mentioned that - good one, Remo!! But I agree, at this level of DID, that wasnt good enough... And I have seen so many UV light acts, that I dont feel anything great about it now... It was wow when I saw it for the first time, and once I understood the trick used for it, the wow went away as quickly as it had come!! Then Remo did a better UV act for Prince last season...

Shakti's flexibility - wow wow wow!!! I have no words!! Now that's what makes one speechless!!! She looked elegant and graceful even with animal moves!! Remember her Bull role in the Paso Doble? She made me fall in love with the Bull in that act!! LOL..

Totally loved the 'Curious case of Geeta"..LOL😆

We all had great discussions on the 'Kaalia Mardan" "dance"..Sashh will be here any moment to give you her in depth analysis..She totally loved the act ad is still scarred at that 😆 Right Sashh?? 😳

Overall, I dont understand Classical dance, but I thought the effort was commendable. Both Amrita and Binny was good in that act. Less said about the Kaalia and Krishna the better. I am still wondering about the UV damage that may have resulted 😆 Jokes apart..The Baby Krishna in BR Chopra's Mahabharat did a better job in that dance than our GK [Geeta's Kaanha} 😆. Geeta used her brains and hid Kaalia's nonexisting expressions in the dark.

Thanks....much appreciate the explanation on the Indian dance.😊 I promise you I will see it again and try to follow what you explained.😃

you see thats the point I was making cos it all happened so fast and I felt Binny was shaky a couple of times...its not her fault though as these are dance forms people take ages to master.

As for the Kaliya Mardan......seriously ....what were GK and the mentors thinking when they praised it!!

As for Shakti.....

I have a confession to make....I tried doing what she did ....with the result that at one time I could move either my butt, or my thighs or my leg or my foot....but never all together!!😆😆😆😳.........

she is quite frankly the real deal....that is if she concentrates and does not loose her focus.....hope there is more to her than DID.

Akanna...thanks again.......was very thoughtful of you to take the time to share the pespective on the classical piece.....😊

And yes! i forgot to add..I tried doing a similar split that Shakti did (albeit a half split, instead of full) in my Zumba class and I was sore for one full week, despite the fact that I am as thin as her. So bravo! to Shakti for the agility..Geeta says its God given, I feel its acquired through sheer hard work, dedication and diet-control 😛

I chose ot to speak about the khichdi of classical dances that were done...

I watch too many shows and am a big fan of shobhana..(akku..I have seen MayaRavan completely before u posted :D)

the expressions annoyed me in teh very first place... they were singular...isnt there a lot more about expressions in bharatam(thats hw we call it)?
and the footwork for bharatanatyamm was a lil annoying for me... havent seen the aramandi pose at all which is central to bharatam..

odissi leg movements again/...are more graceful than those jumps...

i have no idea abt manipuri kathak and mohiniyattam

i thought it was khichdi

im so glad the pelvic thrusts were not there😛
i take this opportunity to show the great pelvic thrusts by mithun duh

Thank you, Kas 😃. I leave the classical to be judged by seasoned people...I just love watching that style and dont know whether the mudras were right or wrong 😕

re you serious about the split😲.........wow well done👏👏...Yes agree that you can get that only through discipline and hard work

As an aside.......I am visibly fatter...ooops!!!...healthier that Shakti and you......so no wonder my slink aka Shakti style looked like a rhino going to the pond for a wade🤣🤣🤣

I wouldnt have been surprised to see Kaalia doing Pelvic thrusts..since the Kaalia in questions belongs to Kalyug. When Kishore-Krishna got badly beaten up by Kaalia, the probablity of pelvic-thrusting Kaalia was high too 😆
