"I consider myself fortunate to be back from the danger zone. I have made it to this spot only because of support from the audience and jury," said Amrita. Trained in Bharatnatyam, ballet and martial arts, Amrita heads the Performing Arts Department at Bhawanipore College, Kolkata. "I have worked very hard for 15 years to be in this position. I would be extremely glad if the audience appreciates and recognises my talent. I am the only contestant from the eastern zone and I need all the support I can from this region," said Amrita. Not ready to face defeat, she added: "I have so much more to give. So many moves to show. I just cannot leave the competition at this stage. It will be heartbreaking." Amrita usually practices for eight hours every day. A student of National High School and then Bhawanipore Gujarati Education Society, she has dedicated her life to dance. Amrita had missed out on the auditions for the first season of Dance India Dance. "I was really sad and when the second season auditions began, I just grabbed the opportunity," she said. According to the finalist and ace dancer, performance is of utmost importance. "Performance is everything. You can do without makeup or costumes, but the passion supersedes everything else." "I have always been tomboyish. And have always played the role of a male dancer in a group dance. I had cropped hair, and have been growing them only now," smiled Amrita. Lux Dance India Dance has now thrown open the lines of voting, whereby the public opinion will decide the fate of the 10 finalists. Eager to get the support of people from her hometown, she said: "Do vote for me, because I represent the city and also the entire eastern zone." Zee TV will next launch the junior version of Dance India Dance – DID Little Masters, where young children will dazzle the country with their moves. The auditions will be held in Kolkata on March 14 at Swabhumi. |
