Colours, O colours stay away, for I am the one, cast away,
Bright and blue, green or gray, made from earth or clay
Rush to Varsha, rush to Dadu, and bring my Anshu a play
Whelm the whites, flood the whites, flame a festival day
Joy to younger health to elders, Happy Holi to all my peers
Oh, a sound from that corner, Happy Holi to all my dears.
Lonely heart, lonely mate, feign to be happy and bright,
Serene and steady, clad in a sari, weaved in red and white.
Song and dance, sweets and play, colours are everywhere
But a sadness , likewise shared somewhere yonder there
A breeze has come bringing a scent, heart has missed a beat
Can not be, ought to be, my life is returning to me.
Tremble in the heart, tremble in the gait, day is brightly lit
A hand is raised colour is done, life is restored to me.
Colours, colours come to me My Dearest has claimed of me
Red and yellow, blue and green, but come as a flood of sea
Colours, colours come to us; we are one on this Holi-Day
Flung in the air, smeared on the face, float as a rainbow spray
