Just when the industry believed that 3 Idiots had set records which would be stay for a long time, box office Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan's MY NAME IS KHAN looks set to break it just six weeks later!

Despite having a limited release in Maharashtra, Gujarat and parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, MNIK's worldwide box office collections are estimated at Rs. 25 crores for Friday! This is the highest ever collections for a non-holiday Friday in Bollywood history. Trade analysts estimate that it could have easily earned an additional 5-6 crores if it had been released normally across India. With the film playing everywhere across the country from Saturday onwards and given the strong buzz, this number is only expected to grow.

WORLDWIDE RECORDS

On the first day outside India, almost every record for Bollywood films was broken globally. Internationally, it is the biggest International opening day by almost 30% of its closest competitor, 3 Idiots.

UK BOX OFFICE RECORDS

In the UK, MNIK previewed on Thursday with an incredible 123k from 89 sites, 4th in the market place behind Avatar, The Wolfman Previews and Invictus.

In this market, MNIK has broken the record for the biggest GBO preview figure for any Bollywood release. The biggest single day preview figure in the UK was previously KANK with 98k.

The biggest total previews figure was 3 IDIOTS which had 2 days of previews (Wed/Thu) during the Xmas holiday period with 121k. MNIK single day previews are bigger than both days of 3 Idiots put together!

It is expected to be the biggest opening Bollywood film ever in this market by the weekend.

ANZ RECORDS

In Australia, Thursday previews of "MNIK" grossed a very good A$39K (US$34K). The movie is ranked #11 in the market. This is 107% of 3 Idiots Thursday BO.

In New Zealand, opening day took LC$ 13,627 (US$ 9,727). Bollywood films traditionally open on a Friday. The exception is 3 Idiots, against which MNIK has over-performed by 204%.

MIDDLE EAST RECORDS

The film is already 50% higher than any other previous film in Bollywood history with an opening day estimated at USD 300k.

There's a huge demand for additional prints in the existing chains across the Middle East and the print count is expected to increase to around 60 by next week.

Given the strong buzz, the film also will be released in Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Oman and Lebanon in the coming week.

"We are delighted with the performance and audience reactions across demographics," says Vijay Singh, "More so, because this is only phase one of the film release. In addition to the release across 45 countries, MNIK will be rolled out in a phased manner across 25 non-traditional markets from April onwards."

Loved, LOVEDDD the first half. I could watch pre-interval movie over and over and even then not get enough of the cuteness that are SRK-Kajol. As soon as Kajol came on, she just lit up the screen. And Rizvan was freaken ADORABLE. Their chemistry was pure magic and I had the stupidest grin throughout. But the 2nd half...Well, I feel it was dragging at parts and got slow. Some scenes, I got a little bored. Wish it was kept a little shorter. And there was a lack of SRK-Kajol scenes.

Some fave scenes:
- When Kajol proposes. Rizwan was so FREAKEN ADORABLE in that scene! He was so shyy covering his face, I felt like grabbing him and pinching his cheeks. haha.
-Both the "I wanna have sex" scenes. Hahah. He said those lines with so much innocence.
-When Kajol wanted to hug him and he kept running away.
-The soccer field scene with the two. I felt SO bad for Rizwan.

Basically ALL SRK-Kajol scenes were adorable. I can't think of other fav scenes right now cuz my brain is dead.

Kajol looked stunning. Her laugh was so vibrant! She was glowing! And her dramatic scenes were brilliant! I've missed her on screen!

SRK was amazing! I have no words...really. His walk, his run, little nuances, so perfectly done. You can't help but fall in love with his innocence. This is SRK's bestest character till date! I wanted to bring Rizvan home with me!

I couldn't have said it any better myself. For me while I enjoyed the first half because of SRK and Kajol's great chemistry, the second half again reminded me what a great actor SRK is.

Funny, thought-provoking, uplifting and tragic, MINK is a first class movie that is
not afraid to travel to some difficult destinations.

So in a word ---- People who hate SRK are able to give an unbiased review and people who usually like him are unable to? 😭
Great logics.👏
From what I have seen from MNIK and from what I've understood --- It has a sweet and optimistic storyline with a pinch of realism - nous - candidness
Yes for once --- Simplicity and lightness of the narration are unusual for Kjo-
Pretty happy about the narration --- Not everything is said or explained (like normal BW movies) and things are shown in a reverse mode.......
The climax bothers me a bit....
So as for now the movie is between good and excellent --- or between average and good - It depends on what one expects from that kind of movie.....
The Mosque scene is worthy and totally necessary ----
There are moments which may seem boring, long or bad edited but it has to do with one's cinematic culture.....And it has to do with the director's ambition...
Actually I like the edition........
When Tom Hanks did FG --- It was ok for everyone that he attended to the entrance of the first African American students in "White" Colleges, met Nixon, participated in Vietnam War, the Olympic Games, delivered a speech near the Capitole, became rich luckily, ran for almost 3 years all over the US and when Rizwan wants to meet the PRESIDENT - it's unrealistic....too predictible --- ......🥱
I like SRK and his acting is interesting and requires to master some techniques and discipline...in MNIK ---- He reminds me a lot of Dustin Hoffmann....void in his eyes and straightness of the face -- that's remarkable and commendable.....
.....
More to come soon...😉

I watched the movie last night. 5 stars out of 5.

EVERY SINGLE part of the movie was just amazing...there was no scene that made you look away because it was so boring...I was glued to the screen the whole entire time.

When they showed the happy moments between Rizvan, Mandira, and Sameer, it was just so beautiful...such a happy family. And Rizvan...SO CUTE. HATS OFF TO SRK FOR DOING 100% JUSTICE TO HIS ROLE. Every actor did amazing...but I think SRK is the main part for me. He's the show stealer for me.

When there were parts showing how people disrespected and treated Muslims and Islam like dirt, I felt SO horrible. I cried and cried...because people really do that. But the way Rizvan ALWAYS corrected those people...by saying 'My Name Is Khan And I'm Not A Terrorist' or by saying what the truth really is that there are only two kinds of people in this world -- good and bad. When there was the man teaching people the wrong story in the mosque, the way Rizvan corrected him... MOSTLY, the part where he meets the husband and wife Imran and Sajida...how he says you don't pray by the people and place around you...but you pray by your BELIEF. 👏 The theater was whistling and clapping and I was included.

It came to the part where he was yelling 'Mr. President, My Name Is Khan And I'm Not A Terrorist'...and they arrested him. Why? A man who himself is a citizen of America cannot meet the president? Or is it a Muslim man cannot meet the president. The reactions of all the families they showed were true...what they were saying was true. That he should be allowed to see the president without so much questioning.

After they freed him, he didn't even go up to Mandira because he didn't fulfill her promise -- I thought that was so cute. Rizvan...<333

The way he went to Georgia and helped everyone...got on the news...it made people question the USA. What do you have to say about him now? You kept him for 15 days because you thought he was a terrorist. And now he's helping ALL of these people...why? Was your misunderstanding a misunderstanding or was it something else because his last name was KHAN. I loved how they all came to help him...true support. <3

And when he finally meets Mandira but gets stabbed then gets rushed to the hospital...thankfully comes out safe. He goes to meet the president but he leaves...and then all of a sudden, the president comes with his security on foot to meet Rizvan Khan. And the president says, "You are Rizvan Khan, and you are not a terrorist." Everyone was clapping in the theaters.

I know I missed many small parts...but really, this movie was just so AMAZING that I simply don't have enough words.

My Name Is Khan is definitely an important movie for my whole family...moreover, I think for all Muslims. The step Shahrukh Khan took in this film against calling all Muslims terrorists was HUGE. The way they showed how so many Muslims are considered a threat just because of their name and religion...and how so many are disrespected. It brought me to tears. I am a Muslim and I am proud. This step Shahrukh Khan has taken for all of us will be remembered forever. And I hope one day, others besides us desis see this movie and realize.

"My Name Is Khan And I Am Not A Terrorist."

My Name Is Khan First Day Business

Saturday 13th Febuary 2010 15.30 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

My Name Is Khan grossed an excellent 8 crore nett on day one as per early estimates. The film lost around 2.25 crore nett business on day one due to the problems in Maharashtra and a couple of other places where it was unable to get a clean release. The biggest losses were in Mumbai where it managed to release in just 50% of the theatres that were scheduled to release the film.

Pune was another big casualty where it was not released at all. The first day losses from Mumbai and Pune are in the 1.50 crore nett region. A clean release would have given the film over 10 crore nett business on day one which would have made it the second biggest first Friday in history of Hindi cinema.

The film has excellent business in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, West Bengal and South while Rajasthan is good and CP Berar, CI and Bihar just decent. Mumbai is also excellent wherever released but overall business in the circuit is not high as it is not running all over the circuit. Delhi/UP business is over 2 crore nett while Mumbai is under 2 crore nett and normally Mumbai is nearly double of Delhi/UP.
