Parmeet Sethi is upbeat about playing the comic detective Omkar Nath in 'Don'
After playing an interesting role in 'Jassi…' actor Parmeet Sethi has landed himself the prime role of Dectective Omkar Nath in 'Don'. Parmeet muses, "I had veered towards inconsequential roles in films. Then I tried my hand at production. But I find TV most challenging as you have to prove your worth each time you do a show."
He is excited about his role, "It's not the usual comedy with a grumpy, poker-faced detective. This character plays mind games and is a master of disguise. There is no blood and gore in the show." Getting into the 'method mode' of acting, Parmeet even wrote an autobiography imagining himself to be the detective while preparing for the role. "Once I could articulate his motives, the rest fell into place. I could relate to him as a person. I also tried to erase all references to the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes or our desi Karamchand."
Parmeet is not your chauvinistic husband. The wife-proud Punjabi says, "I have a teacher in my wife (Archana Puransingh) who is one of the best comic talents around. I have developed the traits on my own, but she did give me pointers." He also credits the 'Nach Baliye' experience as being an enriching one, "The funny bone in me surfaced during the show. It encouraged a spontaneous expression of emotions. It also brought back the spark in our marriage."
Parmeet prefers to leave the 'Jassi…' fiasco (he quit the show after a spat with producers Diya and Tony Singh) behind. He reasons, "Whatever happened has happened for the best. When you realise a relationship is turning sour it's best to walk away rather than harbour bitterness."
Sethi is looking forward to the completion of Ravi Chopra's 'Babul' as he will be sharing screen-space with Amitabh Bachchan. He also wants to do a sitcom with Archana. But on the whole it's 'Don' that has him buzzing. "I feel recharged as an actor after a long time," declares Parmeet.
