**Part 5

It was very easy time at the library next day. The cold was keeping people away and Ridhima had the chance to catch up on a few sorting-out jobs. She felt a sharp jolt as she came upon the book Abhi's mother had ordered. It should have been taken over already, but she had forgotten. Well, if Abhi's mother wanted it she could come and get it because until Armaan went it was best to keep away. Every instinct told her that clearly.

A glance at her watch showed it was almost time to close for lunch and she stayed at the front desk trying to finish off before she left, frowning but not looking up as the door opened and another person came in. It would delay her and today she really needed her lunch break.

"country cooking please." The dark groading voice had Ridhima jumping hoping she was dreaming but teasing blue eyes looked down at her as Armaan stood there by the desk. She just refused to acknowledge that her legs had turned to jelly.

"sorry, it's ordered."she forced to look back at him pertly and he grinned his eyes flaring with amusement.

"you forgot to bring it. Bad girl. Your name is now in mud."

Ridhima found herself smiling as she put the book out for him. Last night seems to have been forgotten. It was somehow quite normal to see him.

"are you trying to get round her?" she asked drily.

"I never go for the impossible. This is a noble act ma'am. It also gave me a chance to get out of there. Abhi was otherwise engaged." He looked around the library with interest. "this place is still the same. Quaint."

"I suppose they have nothing but the best in America?"Ridhima asked glancing at the time. She pressed the bell on the desk and raised her voice. "the library is now closing until two o'clock." She announced firmly.

"power and authority." Armaan murmured his lips quirking. "that's why you like to work here."

People bring their books to be checked out and Ridhima kept busy for a while but she was stunningly aware that Armaan still lounged by the desk making no move to go. When the last person left she busily cleared up suddenly too shy to speak.

"going for lunch?" Armaan asked quietly. She nodded and he went on "do you go home?"

"no it's a bit too far and I wouldn't get a good break by the time I made something to eat. In any case I haven't got my car yet."

"the garage will deliver it here at four"he informed her. "that's the message from Abhi. So where do you go for lunch?"

"theres a tea shop just opposite" Ridhima said breathlessly glancing up. Quite suddenly she realized she didn't want him to go away and he looked down at her steadily for a second hold her eyes with ease looking at her for a lot longer than she wanted.

"I don't fancy it." He said softly. "we'll go to the golden calf."

"but—butI---"

"but you what?"he took her arm and urged her to the door. "are you scared to be seen with your future cousin?aunty is baking bread. Who else cares?"

"it—it wasn't that." Ridhima knew her cheeks were flushed and she knew she was shivering inside almost uncontrollably but she was being steadily impelled to the door all the same.

"I'm paying. So what other excuse can you think of? Be quick. I've got a lousy temper and you know it." When she glanced up he was grinning down at her and she just gave in gladly getting into his car out if the sudden blast of cold air and snuggling into the warmth/

"I've had the heating going all the way here just for you." He said "you seem to feel the cold so I thought I'd better prepare."

"how did you know I will agree to go on lunch?"

"well first I had to find out if you were still scared of me and you seem to be reasonably in control of your terrors and your bursts of temper I figured it would be worth the risk of asking you."

"I'm not scared of you." Ridhima protested.

"aren't you? So what is it then?" he looked across at her pinning her with his blue eyes that probed almost painfully and she felt her breath tighten as she struggled to look away.

"maybe I don't like you."it was supposed to be an amazing bit of bravado but it came out in a trembling manner and he just went on looking at her steadily not starting the car. When she suddenly dropped her head he turned away driving off up the street and it was terrible the he didn't say anything—no sarcasm no goading no jokes.

"I'm sorry" she blurted out and he just went on driving his eyes on the road.

"sorry you don't like me or sorry that you are lying?" he asked softly. "this is friendly gesture Ridhima. I'm at the loose end and I thought it would be good idea to get to know Abhi's future wife a little better. I'm not stalking you."

"I never thought you were stalking me and I was only.... I have changed my mind about lunch. Can I get out please?" Ridhima asked urgently.

"no you cant ! we are on our way. I'm not about to eat you. I'll order something more substantial."

It was great relief to hear him back to sarcasm and Ridhima sat silently her cheeks burning and no amount of trying would stop the shaking. He frightened her without any stalking and it was something inside her. Her hands gripped together when she asked herself why? Why did he frighten her? why did he have this effect on her? Why had she started trembling from the first moment she had seen him?

She just couldn't speak at all and Armaan didn't even try.

i know its a small part but i wrote n updated today after the exam n a good sleep...promise the next post will be bigger......
