Films good or bad. My take is in my sig and I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. Cinema, like most if not all art, is subjective. What works for you may not work for me. So when 3 Idiots wins a majority of the awards I feel disappointed because *I* think it was average in parts and mediocre in others. But my opinion is no less or more valid that someone else who thinks its the best film of the decade.

The two awards I have the biggest issue with as far as Screen is concerned are Boman Irani and 3 Idiots screenplay award.

The first one because I felt Boman Irani was hamming through each and every scene.

The second because there are elementary problems in the writing of 3 Idiots. The film is narrated by Farhan but the "voice" and perspective throughout the flashback remains Rancho's. He's the center of it all till you get a jarring voice-over from Farhan.

The gratuitous paralysis recovery scene of Sharman's character. We know its a flashback - we know he survived in the end. So why such a huge tamasha over reviving him.

And most importantly the film was entirely predictable - for instance who the real Phunsuk Wangdu is or how the baby will survive through an Aal Izz Well. Now these things might bother me - but not necessarily someone else. For these reasons I might find that award going to 3 Idiots biased and unfair. Someone else might not.

Bluemoon: I do see your points. But you know hit movies take it all......it''s sad. The other award Apsara gave best movie to Ghajini!! A movie remade from a Regional movie story lifted from a Hollywood movie gets best movie award! 😕

Oh yeah Ghajini winning was much worse for me.

Or the fact that RACE of all films got the best screenplay award at Screen last year.

One thing that does disappoint me about most Bollywood awards is that smaller films just don't stand a chance. Which is really unfortunate because then they really don't get anything. They're not big enough (in terms of star power and marketing money) to become superhits or blockbusters. But atleast they could get recognition from "the fraternity".

I liked Rishi Kapoor in LBC - more so that anyone else in 3 Idiots or Vivek in Kurbaan. But I still can't help but feel disappointed for Abhimanyu Singh.

On Phunsuk Wangdoo, my friend has a take that it is in fact FUN+SUKH and Bangdoo. Bangdoo is Bengali for Idiot, I guess.
