Alright everyone, it's winter now and though those prom fashions are mouth-watering, let's face it, we're not going to be wearing anything like that for quite some time. So what kind of clothes do you like to wear in the winter?

As far as I'm concerned, winter coats are downright irresistible. Especially nice wool coats.

I absolutely love this Burberry one:

There's just something about white coats. They look instantly elegant and fabulous. I've seen lots of nice looking imitations of this one, or other ones inspired by this coat but a lot cheaper. My problem is that I'm too hesitant to get a white coat which I know will get dirty really fast in all the snow and slush!

Plaid seems to be in, as seen in this one from Urban Outfitters:

I have to say I'm not quite feeling the plaid. I'm not sure I would go for one, but I do see a lot of cute looking ones.

Here's a DKNY plaid coat with fur trim:

What are your thoughts on fur trim? I usually tend to stay away from them, but I think it's possible to wear them nicely depending on how you wear it.

Another winter coat from Urban Outfitters that looks cheery enough to make you forget about the cold:

Another classic red coat:

Finally, the bubble coat:

Not always the prettiest, but sometimes a necessity, especially in deep winter when it gets really cold.

I've spent a lot of time over the past few weeks shopping for coats, and I bought two coats:

1. My Essential: yes, for the deep, deep cold. My pick is the Aritzia mid-length coat lined with down feathers and polyester. It's outer lining is a canvas material comes in tan and black. It was about $275 CAD and a good, sturdy winter jacket.

2. My cute and pretty: this is purely superficial. Still warm because it's a wool coat, but not meant for really cold.

My store suggestions for good coats:
1. H&M - cheap, stylish, though not always durable
2. Aritzia - sturdy, a bit pricier, but reasonable
3. ESPRIT - reasonably priced when on sale, really gorgeous and well-sewn wool coats
I also tried department stores like The Bay, where sometimes they have quality coats on sale.

My suggestion for reasonably priced winter basics: American Apparel. H&M has also been having lots of sweater sales but I have to say that their sweaters really do not last that long.

Dear cute wool coat,
One look at your pristine exterior and I know you're going to keep me warm
Your finely stitched seams exude subtle elegance and classy style
Your comforting weight on my shoulders keeps me going through endless bad weather days, and even bad hair days. Thank you for existing. I will forever shamelessly admit to my entirely superficial love for you.

@ manai: I know what you mean, it's hard to keep up in the winter when it's cold and you gotta worry about snow and slush and the like.

@ star: that one's my fav too! It's quite cheery and put together.

@ aish: glad you liked!

@ missindia: yeah belted coats have their own charm don't they?

See you later girls! I won't be active on IF for some time. It's almost back-to-school time for winter term.

love,
arti
