Even though Sa Re Ga Ma Pa finalist Hemachandra was eliminated from the grand finale, his career has taken off in unexpected ways. After his performance, Subhash Ghai a guest-judge on that episode, promised to give him a chance to sing for his banner, Mukta Arts. He has also recorded a track for Subi Samuel's Alag and is going to record an entire score with his mentor Aadesh Shrivastava.
"I feel I've come a long way. And my performance on Friday night was not a defeat but a new beginning," he says from his home town, Hyderabad. "I'm coming to Mumbai in a week and I want to pursue my music career very seriously in Bollywood. In fact, I'm seriously thinking of buying a flat in Mumbai. It's the only way I can make the city my home. So, I'm far from being defeated. I'm a positive person. I look at Sa Re Ga Ma Pa as a major platform for me. I made it to the top 3 slot. And I feel especially elated because I'm the first South Indian to go up to the finals."
As for making an impression on Ghai to the extent that he has been promised a break, Hemchandra says, "I guess he cared. That was really nice of him. I got tremendous appreciation and praise after I got eliminated this week." Although upbeat about the future, he admits that one of the reasons why he lost out to his competitors Debojit and Vinit was because people in his home territory do not watch Hindi channels. "But people have started watching Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in Hyderabad, only to see me."
Commenting on Debojit's overwhelming support from his home territory, Hemachandra says, "It's natural for the people from eastern India to love Debojit the most. There is nothing wrong in that. I miss my Sa Re Ga Ma Pa colleagues. And I'm aware that my diction and pronunciation need working on. I've already started taking Urdu classes. I'm going to work really hard."
