From what I've understood he tried to help her and she started to fall for him and to help her---- So I guess there's a long part about how they met, they grew up and how they parted and how he tried to get her back and how he had pbs with his name in many occasions..

I think, when Mandira looses her son from her first marriage, then they parted and then he somehow realizes that no one helped her son becoa she got married to him ( who is a muslim) and all this happen after 9/11 attack..
