Oh and Ego. Lotsa Ego.
[Jyoti is busy attending cousin's wedding in Kolkata and gulping down rasgullas and mishti doi' so we will be filling in for her this week' and today is my turn' don't worry, you are just one episode closer to having your pyari Jyoti back. [Note: rules at end of message]]
Part 1:
Scene: Kunal Mehra & Shamoli, alone in his house.
Kunal offers money to Shamoli for her testimomy. Shamoli asks 'Why didn't you give it to me before I testified?' He answers: 'I don't lie and I have the strength to speak truth. ' Shamoli retorts: 'Sometimes, the truth doesn't win out. It is buried underneath lies.' In short they have an ego clash. Both are supremely confidant, egotistical beings. It is a clash of titans.
Kunal continues..'I am paying you this money because I had the conviction to hire you two in the first place. I saw you were different. And this money is the reward for that. For your integrity.'
Shamoli: 'If this is true, why are you making me common, just like the rest, by offering me money?' Kunal: 'I am making you above the rest. And you will remember Kunal Mehra who put his trust in you.'
Shamoli stops him and says 'No. I came here to become someone and to make money. Today, I have made a place for myself. Today, you will remember that I did you a favour which no one else could do. You will remember me.' And she returns his money. [Wow!]
Scene: Shamoli leaves. Kunal Mehra alone, in his house.
Kunal's Soliloquoy [speaks to himself]: 'I have traveled the whole world looking for someone who could be equal to me. Who could stand up to me. How ironic that I found her in my own house. A maid. From a small city. There is something very different about this girl. Something different indeed.'
Scene: Veeru & Shamoli on the streets of Mumbai alone.
Shamoli calls him 'driver'. It irks him. She also comments that he drives in third gear. Talks fast. Runs. Just goes too fast. But he talks too much. They go back and forth insulting each other, then she pulls an emotional drame-daar comment on him about her not having a father. He gets senti and apologizes. Then she says why are you sad for me, you don't have a dad either. He calls her paagal. And I fully concur. [Basically she toys with him.]
Then Shamoli borrows Rs 20 from him. Whereupon Veeru asks for interest. Veeru points to cheek. Shamoli playfully slaps it. [And I fully close my eyes.. I have a KMH hangover.. can't help it.] Shamoli gives her bhurji/food to little hungry girl. [From the guy that insulted her earlier.]
Veeru watches in admiration. Then asks Shamoli why she isnt eating. 'I don't eat from the streets' she replies. He asks, 'shall I book a hotel suite for you?' Ofcourse she says 'yes'. Then he asks, 'what if i can't afford it?' To which she answers, 'then someone else will.' [Veeru is confounded. As is the audience. Here is the future unfolding, in one small roadside scene.]
Veeru's phone rings. He asks if he can pick it up. Shamoli answers, 'of course. its your boss. he's the only one who can ring your bell.' [woah! what tapori lines.. crazy!!]
Kunal Mehra wants to speak to Shamoli. He tells her to stay in the outhouse. She accepts. And tells Veeru. Veeru asks whats wrong with staying in the basti? She says, nothing. But if something good comes your way, then why not take it?
[The name 'Driver'. It irks our man Veeru. But then he stares at Shamoli's goodness. Her giving. And is perplexed by the contradiction in her attitude towards money & success. Veeru falls in love with someone he finds confounding, perplexing, contradictory. Intriguing combination of good and bad. And smoulderingly attractive. Probably because he is confident in his future. He knows he too will be someone soon. Shamoli is a challenge. Her dreams are huge. And he believes he can fulfill them. He is just as confidant as she is, but his ways are different. He is loyal & kind to his bhaiyaa. Or are they that different?? We shall see.]
Part II
VeLi arrive home, and Kanta Thai (KT) is home. V taunts S about the outhouse and that she is too good for home food now. Feed her pizza. Some more random KT humour and then she leaves.
Pizza-ameeri-gareebi nok jhok [teasing] between VeLi and then he is back to trying to steal a kiss [or more] from Shamoli. Shamoli expresses her displeasure at the kissing stuff [you and me both, girl. you and me both. don't kiss please. uff.. my kmh hangover is in the way again. ok .. kiss her.. just warn me so i dont watch that episode.] and she continues teasing him. Veeru, in a moment of passion, tells Shamoli 'Don't mess with me or i'll become just like the other men you've come across.' [i.e. i'll become a creep too. cool, no?] And they sleep in their respective rooms.
[There were taunts here that will last a lifetime. Plus, she doesn't like intimacy cause she associates it with force. Interesting. He defi wants intimacy. Make no mistake. Ha! Finally, Veeru does some tremendous foreshadowing.. he will become less-than-kind if she messes with him. He will become 'like the rest'. Wow. Those are words that will echo in our ears again and again.]
Part III
Kunal Mehra is partying with his family. And seems really happy. But he can't seem to get Shamoli out of his head. He talks giberish with his brother about winning and losing. 'I don't understand if i lost or won.' and the scene ends on his obsessing over Shamoli.
[And here begins a lasting obsession/relationship. fantastic.]
***
Random Thoughts.
And now begins the path to mayhem. Veeru's passion, Kunal's obsession, Shamoli's convictions, and how they come together and explode.
0. Trust no one more than yourself. This is Kunal Mehra's lasting advice to Veeru. In fact, Veeru's greatest flaw (as per Kunal) is that he is too trusting. However, he will lose this naivety soon enough as he is betrayed by both Shamoli and Kunal [knowingly, and unknowingly].
1. Shamoli is still cold, and the least appealing character to me, but she is mysterious. That is her appeal. Two very strong men have fallen head over heels for her today, and she has the power over them.
2. While yesterday (and today's) passionate love scenes between Veeru & Shamoli [VeLi.. love it!][hangover from my Arjun-Arohi love .. sorry] initially turned my stomach upside down , it is absolutely necessary to see the depths of Veeru's attraction for Shamoli. Otherwise, how does it make sense for him to turn his life upside down because of her? His will, with time, prove to be a fatal attraction. Wait for it!
3. While on the topic of the Veli romance, Shamoli seemed like a cat, clawing at her prey, playing with her food. Veeru is SO her midnight snack. Fascinating. [I will enjoy hating her. LOL]
4. Once again, might I reiterate, Kanchan, from no angle, seems strong enough a character [actress? don't know yet] to stand up with Kunal the Egoist, Veeru the Scorned, or Shamoli the Opportunist.
5. How does Rahul, the Yudhistra-like nephew, fit into this Mahabharat, I wonder? I see Veeru as Arjun-esque. [Or could it be that Rahul is Arjun-like, and Veeru is the Karan of the story? [Karan is Karan.. HA!]]
6. Perhaps Kanchan winds up with the nephew? And Veeru is left high-and-dry?
7. It seems it took me exactly 5 weeks to get interested in this story. [Or maybe it just took the entry of Karan Kundra. Ha! That's probably a little closer to the truth!]
Cheers folks.. hope you enjoyed my summary and the episode. Till next time.
