A lot of times familiarity breeds contempt, if not contempt, people start getting used to each other and overlook the wonderful qualities of each other, the very qualities they loved earlier..they under-estimate the need for each other. When away for a while, u get the real perspective of things, the need for each other! the love is re-defined. It exists but is now in a new-reformed avatar.
Now a lot of time spent apart may be detrimental depending on the kind of people u are. It could lead to moving away or simply disappointment or depression. some survive, some dont.
In case of MN, it is as per para 2, they'll do great.. especially since its a misunderstanding it will work out well.
