About Dussehra
Dussehra celebrates the triumph of good over evil. According to the hindu mythology it is a day when Lord Rama killed Ravana, hence Dussehra festival signifies the victory and prevalence of truth. Since on this day Lord Rama killed the demon Ravan it is also called Vijaydashmi. India is a country of different cultures and traditions. People in India celebrate all the festivals with great zeal and warmth and Dussehra is one such festival. Dussehra is a hindu festival which is celebrated in various ways in different states and is a national holiday. As per the epic Ramayana, the day signifies victory of Rama, over Ravana. It is a 10 day's festival and during this period Ramlila is organized. Vijayadashmi is the last day of this festival. It is a sanskrit word where 'vijaya' means 'Victory' and 'dashmi' refers to the 'tenth day'. This day is celebrated by religious rituals by burning the effigies of Ravana which signifies the victory of good over evil. Crackers are also burnt which gives a sparkling end to this festival.
