| When ace photographer Subi Samuel turned producer with Alag and requested some of his favourite star-friends to feature in the promotional music video , they all agreed.
Alag, directed by Ashu Trikha, stars Akshay Kapoor and Dia Mirza and has music by Aadesh Srivastava. Trikha has also directed the music video and the lyrics have been written by Nusrat Badr. Good wishes from stars
Subi beams happily, "Yes, it's true that Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar, Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen have all come together for my promotional music video. The video specifically contains the good wishes of all these people. When I first approached them, their reactions were very positive.
They were very excited and happy about the fact that they are featuring in my first venture. It is at times like these that you realize how generous the film fraternity people can be. It is like a prayer come true for me to have so many stars singing together for my film."
What about the stars who were committed but aren't part of the video? "I wouldn't like to name them. They wanted to, but our dates didn't match. I wanted dates from January 14 to 18 and they were shooting for other films on those days." The song was shot at Mehboob Studios and Subi's studio at Versova. Not an item song
"I have tried to be 'alag.' My story is radically different from the typical masala films and the music video too is alag. Alag is a science fiction film and this video is not an item number but an emotionally heart-wrenching song.
"It's an empathetic song which goes Leke dil lamhe tanhai ka... Here the 10 stars are introducing the hero Tejas Rastogi (Akshay Kapoor), who is different from the usual people we meet. He is blessed with special powers but Alag is not Krrish. There are scenes which Indian cinema hasn't seen before," Subi adds. What's Alag about?
"It's about a guy who has spent the first 18 years of his life indoors in the dark because he possesses special powers and then he steps into the real world. It's his journey of going out of his home and trying to adapt to society. He evokes lots of sympathy. Akshay's character is completely hairless in the film. His whole body is clean-shaven. There is about 50 minutes of special effects in the film. |
| Deol's fond of Subi
Bobby Deol says, "Subi is a very sweet guy and I am very fond of him. I have done the video only for Subi."
Bipasha Basu shooting in Kerala echoes the same feeling for the photographer-producer. "I did it for Subi," she says.
As Subi sums it up, "Sush (Sushmita Sen) put it beautifully. She said, 'It's such a great feeling to be a part of Subi's first venture. Karan's candid takes
Karan Johar, who is currently shooting for Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, says, "I sang a line in the promotional video of Alag for Subi. He is a friend and has done a lot of work with me."
Karan seems to be doing a lot of acting these days. Do we get to see him act in more films or TV serials? "I do not plan to act anymore…I don't have the talent or the looks!" he grins.
Being a director himself how's the experience of being directed by another director? "I enjoy being directed by another director. Raveena Kohli is the director of Koffee With Karan and I enjoy taking her instructions…" Karan adds with a twinkle before signing off. | |
