I would like to ask why is it so?? is it a way of feeding the fantasy of every simple indian girl that a handsome in-demand hunk is falling for her instead of a modern self assertive girl?

There are many types of people in this world..Girls can be outgoing, modern, may have many different traits and most indian boys are not the casanova types....So why is there such an obsession regarding the cool dude-bharatiya naari pair?

i agree men can have this double standard of choosing the seedhi saadhi type gls as wives where as they might have dated all the modern self assertive ones...

Another aspect of the pairing seems to be the romanticism of the notion that people can change for love. The wife can make the husband change his ways and be the good son. The reverse is not shown because it is taboo for a woman to be manizer. It really irks me a lot of times the modern assertive girl is shown to be negative - that if she is modern...she has lost touch with tradition.

I think its an oversimplification.... the way gals are streotyped as negative if they are modern..

Part of the reason could also be that girls do secretly wish for the bad boy. Men have taming the shrew fantasies, girls sometimes picture a walk on the wild side.

I definitely agree with you on this ....gals love the aspect that the wilder guys will fall for her and will eventually be faithful to her, the type which he seemingly ignores while dating...

Most TV shows and movies are exaggerated and dramatic though. The way the relationship progresses, their story arcs everything is so unreal. Its fascinating how they come up with this crap that people love.

people love what they see.... if the movie makers cant dish out something dufferent the vicious cycle will continue...
