i hav read sum posts abt Sinhaldweep so i want 2 clear 1 thing dat sum of us hav guesses it as sri lanka.though 2day it may b Sri lanka is called Sinhaldweep but in Jayasi's Padmavat lanka was mentioned as such & dis Sinhaldweep was said 2 b located sumwhere near Jagnathpuri i.e. Orissa & bengal region & also in it da way from Sinhaldweep 2 Chhittor mentioned like it was btwn these places.
so Sinhaldweep was sum where btwn these region & not 2days Sri Lanka or S.India.

satvik i agree wid u dat 2day & from da time of British Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon & also as Sinhaldweep. but i hav read in Jayasi's Padamavat dat Sinhaldweep was sumwhere btwn Orissa & Bengal region & Sri Lanka was also known as Lanka only at dat time. he has mentioned it as Lanka dweep & alongwid 6 oder dweep, &even he mentioned Jamboodweep not as whole of India but only N.India.
1 more interesting thing i hav read in sum history book (wen i went 2 Delhi 4 da coaching of UPSC exams & also i luv history after science , literature & geography) dat 2days inhabitants of Sri Lanka r called Sinhals & their ancestors came from da Bengal region.

I guess your right then...

There are two types of people in Sri Lanka now: Tamils and Sinhalese.

Sinhalese = Singhal Dweep

The Sinhalese are probably originally from Bengal but live in Sri Lanka now.

ya aradhana u r rite & i know dweep means island & initially me too thought dat its sri lanka or may b s.india.but wen i read da Jayasi's Padmavat icame to know dat he didn't mean s.lanka wen he was mentioning sinhaldweep & also he mentioned lanka in it as lanka dweep only not as sinhaldweep & he also described da way btwn Chittor & sinhaldweep which historians & oder scholars of literature( Padmavat is used as epic in hindi literature 4 its depiction of difft "Rasas" like prem,vairagya etc.) found similar 2 da way btwn Chittor & Bengal,Orissa region.
So its possible dat in those times sinhaldweep was dis region & not 2days sri lanka
