Bollywood’s ‘partners in Rhyme’!

The ace director and comedy specialist - David Dhawan is busy nowadays with his determined movie PARTNER. The film will bring together for the first time the well-expressed and talented Govinda and the macho star Salman Khan. The movie is an out and out comedy and promises to be a laugh riot all the way. But the obvious stare at the movie would be the coming together of two of the biggest stars Govinda and Salman who are brilliant when it comes to tickling your funny bones. David had earlier paired up Govinda with other actors in his previous movies like DEEWANA MASTANA (with Anil Kapoor), JODI NO 1 (with Sanjay Dutt) and BADE MIYA CHHOTE MIYA (with Amitabh Bachchan). All the movies were smash hits and hence PARTNER when ready for release will have sky-high anticipations. The film also stars Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif in the female leads. After SHAADI NO 1 failed to hold up at the box-office, David Dhawan might be hoping to crack the nut with PARTNER.

The movie rouses some of the most beloved and popular 'PARTNERS' of the Hindi screen that have left an indelible impression on the audiences' minds. The 'Buddy' movie era has received a bit of a back-seat in the present-day age of multistarrers and experiments, but the genre holds its elegance and appeal nonetheless. Amitabh Bachchan could be credited as the initiator of the fashion. In the 70's and the 80's Big B teamed up with Shashi Kapoor in many movies including DEEWAR, SUHAAG and NAMAK HALAL, which are his much-loved films till date. Amitabh's rapport with the stylish Vinod Khanna was just inimitable in HERA PHERI, AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY and MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR. The brawny Dharmendra and Jumping Jack Jeetendra got some good milieu in interesting movies like DHARAM VEER, THE BURNING TRAIN and SONE PE SUHAAGA.

Similarly the immensely talented Anil Kapoor and the suave Jackie Shroff displayed exemplary affinity in films like YUDH, PARINDA and RAM LAKHAN. The two capable actors again shared the screen in ROOP KI RANI CHORON KA RAJA and TRIMURTI but the movies crashed at the box-office. The next dudes on the list have got to be the definitive Action heroes Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty. The two fellowed together in movies like MOHRA, YEH WAQT HAMARA HAI and more recently in DHADKAN, HERA PHERI and AAN-MEN AT WORK. Akshay duoed with the urbane Saif Ali Khan in flicks like MAIN KHILADI TU ANARI, YEH DILLAGI and TU CHOR MAIN SIPAHI. There have been many lesser known actors who have bonded on the celluloid in the past furthering the tradition but in the wake of time their charisma failed to sustain and hence they fizzled out of memory.

Off late, the 'Cool Dude' movie propaganda has got a bit dim with the new age cinema generating its stronghold where experimentation and innovation has become a priority. With the coming in of many youngsters and the senior actors reinventing themselves, filmmakers are not that keen on repeating the successful duo of their films again and again in the hope that 'Every day is gonna be a Sunday'. Instead different actors in the lead roles have got thumbs up from the fans as they get to see the on screen duels inexorably. But the trend of buddy movies has got its own charm and one might hope that buddy movies continue to regale audience in the future even though the pattern has changed. The 'Partners in Rhyme' will no doubt amuse the audience and in the process if one finds Amitabh-Shashi or Anil-Jackie team up, it will only get more and more delightful!
