They also celebrate Pongal as a begining of the harvest season. On this day they make a special kind of rice and worship the sun.

"Pongal" word is for tamilians in India..they make a dish with rice from new harvest and sugar together which is called pongal, rice pudding.

I add some more information. South indians they put idols and invite relatives, neighbors to c them and enjoy. This is called "koluvu".Some places the kite flying is a big event too.
