Bong beauty Debina Bonnerjee, who plays Sita on the mythological serial Ramayan (NDTV Imagine), shares her experience of starring on the show that is wrapping up soon. The actress also talks about her future projects and dreams of becoming a Bollywood star.
Talking about playing Sita, she says, "It was a wonderful feeling. I actually feel my character's pain and suffering. Also, being a modern woman, I reject the theory that it isn't possible to find a Sita these days. After playing the role for so long, I've begun to understand where she comes from."
The actress says that starring in the show has also taught her important qualities. She adds, "We lived on this set in Baroda. We all know the importance of Ramayana but actually living in the situation makes you learn qualities such as tolerance and patience. Forgiveness is one quality that does not come easily to the youth but Ramayana has taught me how to forgive."
Recalling a particularly challenging instance for her on the sets, Debina says, "I got along quite well with Gurmeet (Choudhary) and I really hit it off with Akhilesh Mishra, who plays Ravan. We use to chat a lot so having to deliver nasty dialogues to him in front of the camera was tough."
Debina has starred in a few South Indian films as well. When asked whether she hopes to continue her big screen career, perhaps in Bollywood too, she says, "I haven't decided as yet so let's see. I would love to take part in a reality show. As for Bollywood, yes, I do hope to enter the industry but it better not be in the current lot of stupid films. If I, as a member of the audience, cannot watch them, it makes no sense to act in them."
