As much as I am ashamed for Devki to being such a "kalank" to womanhood, she is an interesting one to study. These are the characteristics of abused women. She has certainly taken much abuse from her mil (Amma). I suppose, if there is history there, she would have married when she was 16-18 to Sastri ji and been given a raw deal. Amma would have been all abuse when her son was away at worship and all saccharine sweet in front of him. Of course, on the arrival of Rads, Amma would have transfered all that abuse to the l'il girl and left Devki alone.

Therefore, for Devki (just like in the original Devki's life where Krishna is her savior), here, Rads is Devki's savior. Hence the conflict of letting her go. She wants rads with her and cannot imagine her being married and leaving the house. She needs her for her own well-being as she is like a tender vine which cannot survive without some supporting structure.

Further, Devki is dim-witted enough to not know how to figure out an intelligent way out of the mess the entire radev wedding business has become. She will never be the one to divulge information but will have a breakdown and blurt it out! It will be a serious conflict of consciousness with Vishaka maybe having a baby or something with Dev or Rad being such a sacrificial goat that even Devki will be unable to sleep at night thinking of all the sacrifices a girl who is not even her blood is doing.

Devki is already unable to bear the burden of Radhika's sacrifices and is scared that if she don't act in time God will take an action against her family for being so ill to Rads😉.
Every time she gets close to the verge of breakdown and blurt out the truth Amma steps in to divert her mind to think of Vishakha's welfare and reputation😆. That is the reason why I see her as a waste candidate. She can't help Radhika in any way...but to push her into more mess by influencing with false motherly love😡.

Interesting analysis blokes, I never thought of it that way, she actually doesn't want to let Radhika go...

But she has conveniently forgotten that she is firstly a priest's wife and then a mother, both these relationships require good judgement...unfortunately, she has none...

I really dont know whether she wants to let radhika go or not..... n I really dont care....
I just cant understand what this woman wants?????? She doesnt even know whether her conscience pricks her or not!!!! It may be that she needs radhika....but that's one way of being utterly selfish!!!!!!! She has already sacrificed radhika's happiness n traded it for her OWN daughter's so-called "marriage" n future....
She has already proved how weak the bond of a mother n a child can be..... if not biological!!!!! She has shown a diametrically opposite nature to that of Yashoda maiya!!!!!!
She's a disgrace to motherhood I feel.... n my opinion about her probably won't change unless she blurts out the truth INTENTIONALLY n gets radhika back the rights, n respect that she deserves being the true CB of purohit family n above all Dev's love!!!!

she does represent what we find in so many people. The ability to sit on the fence while you can see the adharm around you.
e.g. there were many Indians in British era who did not join the freedom struggle, and only waited for the fight to finish so that they can go back to their business.basically playing safe.. Devki is one of these people. She doesnt have the guts to fight for the right thing.
coward might be a fitting word.

i agree...she is a disgrace to motherhood, even though she is not radhika's real mother. at least she should feel some guilt for doing all this to radhika but she doesn't seem to feel anything!!! she is really selfish! i

Devki is a mother and what she's done to her daughter is just not right. She was willing to break her daughter's marriage, she continues to keep quiet despite knowing the truth. Then there's the fact she is allowing her other daughter to live with a man she is not married to.

I have no sympathy for her... i will leave it at that! To have a mother like her is better to have none.

she is a daag to womenhood!

Agreed fully! Today she says to Radhika "Tujhe meri hai lagi". I was left wondering which sane mother would curse their own child for another daughter? Devki does cause deep down she never considers her to be her own daughter. She is just a punching bag to for her daughter Vishakha's flaws!
