Last year saw films like Black and Page 3, 'different' genres making it big at the box office. We also saw that sex was out and comedy was in, with hits like No Entry and Bunty Aur Babli.

Now, in one of 2006's first releases, we will see Celina Jaitley sizzling in Jawani Diwani, with Emraan Hashmi. When asked what the film's unique selling point is, Celina proudly announces, "It's me wearing a bikini."

Now this makes us wonder. Celina wore a bikini in 2003's Janasheen as well, and the film sank. Let's just hope this time's bikini helps her stay afloat at the box office.

Shahid Kapoor is everywhere.

Always in the papers, hanging with Kareena Kapoor or in glossy ads telling people how he keeps his hair smooth. The only place he isn't seen much is in theatres. After all, with a string of flops, most of his films are withdrawn from theatres almost instantly after their release. In December 2005 alone, he gave us three duds -- Deewane Huye Paagal, Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi, and Shikhar. This year, his last hopes lie with 36 China Town and Sooraj Barjatya's Vivaah.
John Mathew Mathan: Did we overestimate this director? After the hard-hitting Sarfarosh, we all felt he would prove himself in Shikhar, even minus Aamir Khan. The result: A dismal failure with Shahid Kapur and Ajay Devgan. This brings up a bigger question about Bollywood directors: Are they all one-hit wonders? Mahesh Manjrekar (right) shone with Vaastav and Astitva, but has been struggling for the last five years. Sujoy Ghosh scored big with Jhankaar Beats, but his last, Home Delivery, was judged the worst Hindi film of 2005 by a rediff.com readers' poll.

We have this to say to John: 'Welcome to the club'.

We are beginning to get the feeling that Ajay Devgan and wife Kajol think they are looking great and hilarious in their Tata Indicom advertisements.

Let's be honest -- these talented actors look utterly wasted and out of place in the mediocre commercials. Worse, they are more irritating than funny. Could someone pass the message on to them, please?

This also makes us wonder how the Aamir-Kajol-starrer Fanaah will turn out this year. Apparently, director Kunal Kohli is the man behind these so-called funny ads. Great sense of humour, we must say.

Raveena Tandon: The lesser written about this actress of yesteryear, the better it is for all of us.

Note: We are using the word 'yesteryear' because we don't know why she appears in the news all the time. The last hit Raveena gave was Dulhe Raja in 1998, with Govinda. For the last seven years, she has been in the news for inexplicable reasons. We assumed she would finally retire after marrying Anil Thadani. But she made news on the first day of 2006 by throwing wine on Anil's ex-wife, Natasha Sippy. Why did she do that? What motivated her? God alone knows. But it did get her headlines.
