So the title pretty much gives it away, this is my birthday present to Shifali! My detailed message is in the post Ravzie put up, but first I got to apologize for being so cold-hearted when you were hinting about your birthday and I said that "birthdays are no big deal, just closer to death." You have NO idea how bad I've been feeling so take this as my apology? 😉

She stood, at the pier, waiting impatiently for one hour, two hours, three hours. The sun was threatening to set, vibrant colors reflecting in the deep sea, the waves swaying almost seductively. With a sigh, she leaned forward on the front, closed her eyes, letting the wind take over her mind, body and soul. The wind gently played with her hair, tickling it along the base of her neck, letting it to sway down her back. Along with her hair, she let her thoughts flow, fly away swiftly, emptying her mind, simply enjoying the sheer peace she felt, a rare quality to be found in her life.
A loud snap revived her. Opening her eyes, she saw a hand in front of her face, waving as if to ask if she was there. She turned and was greeted with the cheeky grin of her best friend. All peace she had felt moments ago vanished.
She raised her eyebrows.
"What?" he asked innocently.
She raised them even higher.
"Look!" he pointed to his watch. "I'm only..." Here he squints at his watch as if he couldn't see but she knew better.
"Three hours late."
His hand dropped, a smile playing on his lips. "Yes, but I have an excuse!"
"Oh really?" She stopped in her tracks, and turned to look at him, her hands on her hips. He immediately flinched, cowering if fright but stood his ground.
"See, on my way here....it...the....see..." She cut him off.
"Oh save it Arjun, please ok, its not like this is the first time." she huffed, and started walking off into the direction of the coffee house situated near the beach, her one place to sulk, think or just sit. Arjun was running to keep in pace with her.
"Oh come on yaar, don't do that, at least I showed up! But you have to listen to this, on my way here..." Arjun blabbered on and on from his part, a stony silence from hers. As they crossed the threshold to the shop, she turned to him, abruptly.
"Double latte."
With that, she turned on her heel and stalked off to corner table, which he had come to known as her spot, where she liked to sit back, survey the activity around her and jump in when needed. Smiling to himself, he turned and walked to the counter.
She sat there, fuming that he didn't even have the decency to ask her about herself, at least today. She watched as he, instead of ordering, disappeared into the back. Her eyes narrowed, wondering what Arjun had up his sleeve now. Come to think of it, he had been unusually happy the last couple of days, jumping off the walls, smiling to himself when he thought no one was looking and changing the subject when questions arose. She sat there, playing with the stray strings of her jacket and looked up when she could hear Arjun, sauntering his way back, hands in his pockets, a whistle playing on his lips. At the sight of him, for just a second, her heart melted. He was a guy, guys tended to forget these things. Arjun caught her eye from across the area and winked at her and she stiffened. No forgot that, he should have remembered.
Hands empty, he walked back and slid in the seat opposite her, grinning. She looked at him blankly.
"So? Where is it?"
"Where is what?" he asked, feigning innocence again that night.
"My drink."
"Oh that. It's coming." He waved his hand airily, smiling at her, as she kept staring back at him. Something was not right...
"So..." she started, trying to make it sound like she didn't care. "What were you doing in the back?"
Imitating her tone, Arjun answered. "Ohh nothing much...just." He raised his pinky, watching her for her reaction. She felt a blush creep up her neck, why did she even bother asking him? No better question, why was she even friends with him? Keeping her voice cool, she answered back with a simple, 'Oh.'
Silence fell between them, not awkward in anyway. In the background, she could hear faint tinkling. Eyebrows furrowed, she turned to see a whole horde of waiters and waitresses come out, all dressed in the same black outfits, pushing a tray with a cake placed on it singing as they pushed it, "Happy Birthday to you...happy birthday to you...."
Her jaw dropped open and she turned wordlessly towards Arjun, questioning him. He smiled and got up, sliding in next to her. The waiters continued singing, as the placed the small cake in front of her. A single candle was lit in the middle and it was decorated lightly. Still in shock, she had to be nudged by Arjun to lean forward and blow out the candle, and with the help of Arjun, she sliced through the cake. He picked up a piece between his fingers and gently fed her. She raised her gaze and she saw nothing but care and love radiating from his eyes. Smiling, he leaned in just so she could hear.
"Happy Birthday Shifali."
She smiled.

I know everyone has been using Prem, I was originally going ot use Imran, but then Meera told me about him, NO idea what his charachter is like, hope I did ok! And hopfully you liked it! Happy Birthday Shifali!
