Radha ki beti Ragini Khanna, who played the bubbly Ragini in Radha Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi, has an immense histrionic challenge facing her ' in the new serial Bhaskar Bharati where Bhaskar transforms into Bharati and Ragini plays the female avatar of actor Eijaz Khan, who gets trapped in a female's body! A new slim-fit Ragini, who incidentally is Govinda's niece, says excitedly, "It is a very difficult and challenging role because I play a character who has Bhaskar's soul but the body of a woman. The character thinks like Bhaskar, behaves like Bhaskar, speaks like Bhaskar but all in a woman's body. It makes an awkward sight but we didn't want it to look crass. It was a very difficult transition for me but was beautifully managed by Deeya and her team (of TV production house DJ's). I feel I'm a man!" Ragini has done extensive homework for her role. "I'm working on my body language and speech. I observed Eijaz. Even if I was not shooting, I would come on the sets and observe Eijaz. That helped me a lot. Eijaz, I must admit, has been very helpful. He is a very intelligent guy and would advise me to add small nuances to the character." Despite doing her homework, Ragini found herself at her wit's end while performing a couple of scenes. "A man in a woman's body is not accustomed to having stuff in his body akin to a woman. On the first day of my shoot, I had to run towards a girl, go down on my knees and propose to her ' 'Geeta mujhse shaadi kar lo'. It was good fun but I was very embarrassed. I had never proposed to a man, how could I do so to a girl? One day, I had to go to the gents' toilet. Trust me it was the worst thing that happened to me. It was stinking." The buzz is that the show is a remake of the Spanish television show Lalola. Ragini clarifies: "It is an adaptation, not a scene-to-scene copy of Lalola." Before leaving, we can't resist asking her, what if she finds out one fine morning that she has turned into a man? Ragini tentatively asks, "Do you think it is possible?" After a pregnant pause, she adds, "I think I would react just like Bhaskar." |
