Emraan Hashmi in Gangster
What did you do on New Year's?
I was celebrating at Candolim beach in Goa with 15 friends, including my fiance Parveen. This time it was special as we both spent it together. Last year, I was shooting for Chocolate in London. We started partying from 10 pm and after 1 am, we watched the firecrackers on the beach, ate good food, and headed to a friend's party, stayed there till 5 am and then crashed.
How was Goa?
Goa, this time was quite disappointing – too noisy, crowded, and half of Mumbai was there. Two years ago, it was different. This time I got mobbed on Baga beach. I stepped out of the car and 150 people came rushing towards me with autograph books and cameras. My friends were cursing me as I had come on vacation. For the latter part of my stay I was covering my face partially so people didn't mob me again.
Any New Year resolution?
No. Last year I had made a resolution that I won't kiss in any more films of mine but it didn't work out, so no resolutions this time.
How does it feel to be known as a hit-song hero?
I am pretty amused by it as people ask me about it. How come it's a coincidence every album of yours is a hit, you must be composing the music too… But it's nothing like that. I feel positive in working with new singers like Himesh in Aashiq Banaya and now Jhalak, Kunal in Bheege honth, Amees Jamal for Kaho na kaho, Atif for Adat in Kalyug.
I like new concepts, have a good ear for music and listen to different kinds of music when I have the time. I listen to fast and alternative music. I am a compulsive music listener and keep playing a song till I am fed up. I always have my I-pod when I am shooting.
Tell us about Jawani Diwani.
It's very youthful comedy where I play a struggling, ambitious singer who is having an affair with two women at the same time. He's quite a dumb, bumbling character who every time he opens his mouth gets his foot into it and lands in trouble.
What other films in 2006?
Jawani Diwani, Aksar, Gangster, Killer, Subhash Ghai's Good Boy Bad Boy. Playing the lead role in every film is not important for me. In my second film — Murder, I played a villain. I just go according to my gut instincts and if I like the character. In Gangster I play a simple guy with glasses, who falls in love with a gangster's moll.
