Kangna not invited to Cannes

Why was Kangna not invited to Cannes for Kites promotion?

Director Anurag Basu, producer Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan have returned to Mumbai from Cannes while Barbara Mori, happy with her moment of red-carpeted fame has gone back to Mexico; all happy at the way the 9-minute trailer of Kites has been received at the international jamboree.

But the one voice of dissent in the glamorous event that we cannot hear, thanks to the din of clinking champagne glasses, is Kangna Ranaut's.

After the recent Adhyayan-Shahana Goswami episode where Kangna was linked to Kites' other leading lady Barbara Mori's brother (who apparently has no interest in women), Kangna has voluntarily gone into a shell, from which she was more than willing to emerge long enough to attend the Cannes event for Kites.

But no one invited Kangna! Strange, considering she's the leading lady of the film. Says a source close to the actress, "Kangna was not told to accompany Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik and Anurag Basu, although the director Anurag is very close to her and in fact was instrumental in recommending her for the role in Kites. We believe the team wanted to focus on the Hrithik-Barbara pair to give Kites a more international crossover appeal at Cannes."

But doesn't it appear exceedingly strange that the film's leading lady was left out at such an important event, just to spotlight the leading man with another pair?

When questioned, Rakesh Roshan washes his hands off the matter. "We ourselves were not sure till the last minute of what has happening, and who was going or not. Even my brother Rajesh Roshan who was done the Kites music was left out because of the last-minute flurry. I think our co-producers Big Pictures would be the best people to comment on why Kangna couldn't go."

A representative of Big Pictures laughs off the matter saying, "I think Mr. Rakesh Roshan would be able to comment on why Kangna wasn't at Cannes." https://www.bollywoodhungama.com/news/2009/05/20/12896/index.html

yeah, whatever! This just made me dislike the Roshans so much more!

I'm so damn angry at this article! I've never been angry at an article before but this just does it for me. I think I better stay silent at this matter because I do not want to get reported for commenting on it.

well kangana could have got so much more attention at Cannes. She has a very unique look and a sense of style that is her own without it looking contrived or forced.

It's because Roshan rather promot someone who's not Indian. This is so typical of Indians they ignore own. Kangana deserves better she is a good actress.

Good actors without backing in this industry have to suffer like this.
Kangana is hardly there in the trailor too - poor girl.
Hopefully she had enough scope to shine in the movie.

i dont think shez the main lead..i ve seen the promo n it seems more like a hritick - babara love story n its problems..kanagana is definately the second lead...the article jst wants to create unnecessary confusion...its understood that hritick n babara r the main pair n hence they shuld represent the movie in cannes...similarly as aish represented loreal despite sonam was also a part of it...its nufin wrong i guess ..

koiza, sonam-ash is a different ballgame altogether... trust me..! (besides, ash IS the international face of L'Oreal whereas Sonam represents India ONLY)

lolz... barbara plays the romantic lead opposite hrithik... but kangana plays a vital role too.. it would have been only fair to invite her.. however, they want the main focus on hrithik barbara at the moment... it's more 'international', you see... 😉

Maybe because she is a young Himachali girl with what is perceived by typical Indian mentality to be "verni" or "dehati" English accent. For them she is not convent educated enough. God this makes my blood boil. What is with white and convent accent obsesssed bollywood!!!!! They rejected Frieda for being dark and they time and again put Kangana down for her NON pseudoBrit-Indo accent.
