gauna is a ritual in which the girl goes to her husbands house. when child marriages happen like when the girl is like 8 she stays with he parents till she hits pubertiy or she turns a certain age lets say 16 he husband cums to get her.

It was a tradition in which girl didn't go to her Sasural after marriage. But married girl went to Sasural after 1,3, 5 or 7 yrs once Gouna is done.

In short Groom take her bride to his home after gouna. The logic behind this was to let bride grow as during that time child marriage was quite common.
